Merit Scholarships?

Is Pepperdine done sending out merit scholarships? The financial aid is up on wavenet now but I can only receive loans :(

I hate to bear the bad news, but merit aid is no longer being rewarded. I’m in the same boat as you.

There is no merit aid? Are you sure?

I hate to ruin your day, but if more merit didn’t show up on your fin aid package, then it’s no longer being given.

I don’t understand why Pepperdine is the only school I was admitted to that didn’t offer me any institutional grant. It was my top-choice school, and without any sort of grant offered (other than the federal grant, which isn’t much considering how expensive Pepperdine is) I will not be able to attend Pepperdine this fall.

awww
well thanks though

I’m a bit confused between merit scholarships and grants. What’s the difference?

Merit aid (scholarships) are based on merit - usually a combination of test scores and GPA. Pepperdine doesn’t “advertise” what the criteria are for their merit based scholarships (at least I never was able to find it). Lots of other schools have merit based scholarship calculators, etc. on their websites. You do not need to show financial need for (most) merit scholarships.

Grant aid is a “grant” - money they are just giving you because you have a gap in your FA package after they apply government aid (like Pell grants), loans, etc. You have to show financial need for (most) grants.

Neither merit or grant aid has to be repaid.

Thank you so much jokahugo! I have one more question. When does pell grant and cal grant show up on the financial aid package?
