Merit Scholarships

@sophiawyu‌ Thanks! The weekend this year is from 3/28 - 3/30 (Sat-Mon)

@viphan‌
That’s more than I expected, actually. I thought it was the other way around - you get $5000 for selection, and $25000 if part of the 15 at the weekend. If I do get chosen, this means I have a shot at paying OOS tuition (but I’ll see how everything turns out).
Anyways, have fun at the weekend, and congratulations!

This well-details the award amount & other information.

Thanks! I hope some of us from the ELW get nominated as well. Good luck

@viphan‌ does anything show up on Wolverine Access regarding the scholarship.

Congratulations on your award.

@Ryan33‌

On my WA Account, it says Aid year 2016 – “No self-service access for this aid year.”

Joseph M Geisinger rejection email came yesterday for my son. Just FYI for anyone waiting. At least the pool has been whittled down somewhat. :slight_smile:

Anyone out there win the award? Kinda curious what they are looking for.

@YZamyatin‌ I got mine on 2/19, didn’t get it either. Kinda sad because it was one of my most creative essays that I really liked. Oh well, onto other schools :slight_smile:

I got my rejection letter for the Geisinger scholarship last week as well. Funny how things work sometimes.

If you get significant aid, or are even put in the position for significant merit aid, you’re in the small small minority. Congrats! :smiley:

Does UMich give good need-based aid, like do they meet full need?

@rhandco For in state students, they do meet full need.

Hi,
I got accepted to UMich college of LSA for computer science today after initially being deferred in the EA pool. I got a 32 on the ACT. I’m an american citizen who lives in India so I don’t have a gpa. However on every percentage to gpa scale I’ve checked, my high school scores indicate a 4.0. I was wondering if someone could tell me if I’m likely to get any scholarships or if I have to apply to any. Also, I’m OOS if that makes any difference. Thanks.

@vkysnj 21% of freshmen last year has GPA 4.0 in high school. Also, ACT 32 is within the mid 50, not above. It is not likely for you to get merit aids.

While I did not receive any shipman info (congrats again @viphan‌!), I did receive some merit award. No notification, just showed up in my portal - the Jean Fairfax scholarship for $10k a year. With OOS tuition being what it is, I don’t think it will sway me, but I’ll wait until I get my full financial aid info.

@ARandomGeek‌ I really hope you end up at Michigan - goes for all who attended ELW!

Is there still a chance I could hear about merit scholarships (I was accepted in the late February wave) or have they all been sent out yet?

out of state by the way

I heard there’s still a chance to hear about merit scholarships – possibly in April. Have you sent in your deposit yetj?

Not yet, whether I go or not will probably depend on if I receive a scholarship, I have already received my financial aid decision but no scholarship (hopefully yet)

@thawardask Since you were admitted in late February, you are likely not receiving scholarships. How is your stat? You may get some grant though if there is need demonstrated.
