Does anyone have any info on Merit Scholarship? From what I can see on the site, there doesn’t look to be much that is offered to out of state students. I don’t think we will qualify for any need -based aid, but without any help, Bucknell may not be an option.
Bucknell is a private school. OOS is irrelevant.
Out of state vs. in state is not relevant as Bucknell is a private institution and the “list” price/tuition is the same regardless of student’s state of residence. In terms of merit scholarships, as you have probably already seen on the University website, there are a variety of academic and arts based merit scholarships that top out at $20,000 per year. They are all competitive. Except for the Arts Merit scholarship (which require a separate application process) I believe that the others will either be awarded as part of the regular application process or that an applicant will receive an invitation to apply later in the process. Or at least that’s as I recall it happening with my D who was invited to apply for the Presidential Scholarship in late Feb. She ended up with an Arts Merit Scholarship but did not receive the Presidential or Dean’s scholarship. So if $10K or $20K will not make Bucknell affordable and you don’t qualify for need-based financial aid, Bucknell very well may not be an option…
My mistake, I am fully aware that Bucknell is a private school and the tuition is what it is. Thank you @momofzag for the info! $10,000-$20,000 would definitely make it an option. Absolutely love the school!
@SALSRL - Good luck to your son/daughter! My sophomore D is having a great experience so far. (And I would recommend applying for Financial Aid this year even if you think you won’t qualify. At the minimum that will give your child the option of getting unsubsidized Federal loans.)
@momofzag Thank you!
