Hi Nikkil
My son did appeal and today found out he is getting financial aid including a full Pell grant. So he has given his notice in and will be ready to start school full time and focus on school. Such a relief! In a way the whole finaid scare may be a good thing for him as he now realizes he cannot drop classes as he has in the past and must focus this time. Thanks for the advice.

What great news! Here's to a bit of maturity this time around ... :)

Thank you :) I am hoping and praying any crossing whatever body parts I can manage to cross.

Swimscatsmom, I am glad to read this. You of all folks deserve this with all the help you have given us. Did not read your S's situation, but I know that dealing with kids is so hard. Hope all continues well.

Thanks CPT. He is my older child - high IQ in the 130s but with some learning disabilities including ADD and some writing issues that have made academics a struggle. Started college, dropped out. Tried to go back last year and hold down a full time job at the same time (did not qualify for any aid because although our EFC was low his earnings put him too high) - a disaster and he ended up dropping all his classes. Decided to back this year and **not **work - we have an automatic zero EFC this year so were hoping for aid. But got denied aid because of the excessive withdrawals last year. He appealed and they granted the appeal so he can go back to school and focus all his energies on school and not a job. I am cautiously hopeful.

I am happy to read that the appeal worked! I have been following your story on the other thread. This is a happy ending -- for you and your son. I hope he appreciates this new opportunity and is able to focus all his energies on school. Having a mom like you to support him is a great step in the right direction!

Thank you. We are all very pleased. Part of the aid is a subsidized loan in his name and I think, with his personality, having 'some skin in the game' as they say (what an awful phrase now that I think of it) will be a powerful motivating tool.

great news, swimcat!

Swimcatsmom, we need to talk! I am in the same "race" as you, just a different boat and you are a few lengths ahead. Again, congrats to son in getting set in this direction and I am very happy for you.

I am glad to hear that it worked. As you stated, hopefully, since some of the loan funds wil be in his name, he will realize that he has an investment in his education and devote sufficient time to his studies. I know first hand how difficult it can be to hold down a full time job and attend college full time.
