Hi all,
I'm in my sophomore year of high school, and I have a bit of a problem. I am enrolled in an online homeschool program that is new to me. I just finished a 0.5 credit course (forensic science) that I had a 100% in. However, I did not know that it was only a semester-long course- that is where my problem lies. I thought I had time to do some missing assignments (because with year-long courses, we are given 52 weeks to complete everything, as it is a missionary-kid based school), but since it was only a semester-long course, I didn't have the time I thought. My 100% went down to a 72% due to missing assignments, which includes my final exam. I do very well in all of my other courses (all A's- I even have a 99% in my APUSH class). Will I still be able to get into a good college?
Doing well is of great importance to me, and I am quite ashamed of this mistake, though an honest one. I've always tried very hard in school, and getting into a good college is important to me.
Any help with this would be very appreciated.

To be honest, I don’t think this will hurt your chances at all. Especially since its a 1/2 credit course. Many top colleges ignore entire freshman years. Just remember to have good extras as a very high gpa is not the only thing colleges look at. (Im sure you won’t have a problem with that)

mhammel this happened in his sophomor year. Honestly, the best thing oyu can do now is move on, and try and rack up as many As to overcome it.

I figured it being a 1/2 credit course is what would help me out, I just have a hard time handling that I did everything I could to maintain a 100% just to have it dropped down to a 72%. Going to a great school has always been something I’ve made sure to work for- I took my first high school class in 7th grade. I’m just frustrated, you know?
What are considered “good” extras? I have a lot of community service hours- 370 hours from this year and last year (I know that community service isn’t everything, but it’s something that I really want to do). I have done theatre for the last two years- 5 shows total, including more ‘prestigious’ ones, such as Les Miserables. I’ve played piano for 8 years, been singing for 3, and I take lessons for both. I’m also a self-taught drummer of 2 1/2 years.
Do these count for something? I’m very passionate about music and theatre.
I also went on a mission trip to South Africa for 3 weeks and helped run a medical clinic, serving 2,000 people in 5 days. Will that matter at all? Helping people is also something I am very passionate about.
I’m not okay with doing ECs disingenuously. If I’m going to do extras, I’m going to do them with my whole heart.
