my parents haven't yet filled out the CSS profile for Stanford. ... priority deadline for REA was the 15th. When we called, the adcom said this means we might receive our aid later. What i'm wondering also is if we will get LESS aid too. What exactly happens? I'm considering having my application status changed to RD so that the CSS deadline would be changed to Feb 15th. What should I do? What is the consequence of my negligence? Should I just grit my teeth and stick it out, or should I change it to RD?

Deep breath. With some schools there might be less aid available if you don’t meet the deadline. I doubt Stanford will have this problem.

So… if you get a yes from Stanford, instead of getting a financial aid estimate at the same time or shortly thereafter, you’ll have to wait and let them get your Profile processed.

If your parents are married/living together, and neither is self-employed, Stanford’s Net Price Calculator ought to be pretty accurate.

==> Do check Profile and FAFSA deadlines for your other colleges. You goofed on one where it doesn’t matter. You might not be so lucky another time.

OP has been fortunate so far, He also forgot to send in score reports before hand.

For Stanford, I agree with Arabrab. EA is non binding so you can apply to other schools to have packages to compare. Doesn’t matter if the acceptance comes without the package. For ED schools, this could be a problem if such a school refuses to extend the ED commitment/enrollment fee/flush other schools from the list deadlines for the fin aid package because the student did not send the info to get a fin aid package put together. I know of one such case. But for EA, not a big deal.
