Messed up my Math exam!! Now what?? Please advice.

Well, my 2nd term exams are going on and I messed up my Math exam ( basically, didn't study much due to certain personal reasons and went and wrote it with no prep) . I will mostly get 60% - 70% ( That is equivalent of a C)!! :(

Now I was hoping on sending these results for the mid year report. My question is how badly will this one low score affect my application. Just for comparison, I got an 800 in the SAT i Math section and 780 in the Math II subject test. I also received 50/50 on my mid term(which I sent through commonapp). So will this low score be excused, noted or hurt my application real bad???

I have applied to some really competitive schools (UPenn, Cornell, Northwestern, etc..).

Please reply!! Really need to cool myself down with some advice, before my last exam!!

Thank you all!! :)

Bumpity Bump!?

Anyone? Someone? No one??

This is going to hurt you like 23.53% from a similar perfomance but 100% if you got 800 n 780 in second try and less than 750 in first then it will hurt by 29.96%

yeah it hurts. i messed mine up much worse than urs (take a guess at how much i got) but some not-very-selective schools might not care so much. if it is just one grade tho (if u were getting 90% frm 9th to 11th in math) it might be excused as a particular exam gone wrong. but u have to be more careful since u r applying to schools which have acceptances less than 20%

optimisticer: I calculated 0%/0%/0%

@JRswish, 9th final - 86% , 10th ICSE - 92%, 11th final - 79% , 12th mid term - 100% and now ~65%!! Problem is – Every exam, I tend to screw up one subject ( because the school tends to pile up the timetable with no time to study!!) !!

@Optimisticer - What’s with the %s on all your posts??
You’re either failing miserably at being funny or are so smart that no one gets it!!

Well… anyone else with any info??

I got 71% on my IB Math HL midterm, and I didn’t even give it a thought dude…lol. I am guessing you’ve gotten A’s through high school math, so one bad math grade shouldn’t affect ur chances.

Schools don’t send in midterm grades on midyear reports. See https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/DownloadForms/2013/2013MidYear_download.pdf</a> for what’s included. Is your grade on the verge of dropping to a B? Even if it does, you probably won’t suffer from it too much, since there’s virtually no distinction between a 3.95 GPA and a 3.93. If you get a C as your semester grade and are planning to major in math, you may have some problems, but you’re probably blowing it out of proportion otherwise (especially if you’re international, where grades will be evaluated differently by admissions offices).

12th mid term - 100% - i stopped at this…

@Skeezey - Its not the midterm grades that I’m sending in now ( I sent the mid term grades attached to the school report) . These are the 2nd tri semester (or more commonly known in India as pre-final grades). The overall might just drop to a C or mostly a B. I plan to major in engineering.

@JRswish - paper was easy!! Haha!! :)

@xeck890 - well actually no!!

Math has always been awkward for me. We usually have 3-4 exams per school year and since 9th, I have somehow managed to screw up math in one of those exams - with a high 60s or low 70s !! And I am not one of those applicants with glowing stats - so every small bit matters!!

Question is , how much will this matter??
(Just Calculated - years average will be ~ 83% )

Anyone else?? Please!!
