Method of Decision Delivery

I'm sorry if this question has an obvious answer, but none of my intense blog-scanning has uncovered it:

How does MIT notify applicants of their early action decision?

I know about the famous MIT tube, but do they also send an e-mail? Or do they put it on the MyMIT page? And if so, where on the website?

Thanks!

Karthago delenda est!

It’s on decisions.mit.edu, the tube comes later I think.

Right now that website just leads to the MIT admissions page. Will it change in a couple of days?

Yep, after the blog post about the exact day of decisions.

wahhhhhh i’m freaking out this is not okay.

I know!!! Me too! These decisions, Jamaican Me Crazy!

lolololol CC needs a “like” button

The anticipation is killing me!

Same here, the worse thing is, there’s not even a definite date to find out! I wish I was in Cambridge, I would just bust into the admissions commitee and say “I appreciate how much thought you all are putting into this, but could you people hurry up?!”. Of course, I wouldn’t tell them who I was, I can’t imagine they’d like to admit the person that yelled at them :P

Sent from my MB502 using CC App

^ Yeah, seriously, it’s not like they’ve got thousands of apps to go through in under two months or anything.

Oh, wait.

I really quibble with the idea that decisions are taking an unusually long time because the admissions committee is ponderously putting a lot of thought into the process.

This is the process. This is how long it takes them to review EA applications. In the past, the decision date has been announced/the decision date has been:
2010: Dec 9/Dec 16
2009: Dec 11/Dec 16
2008: Dec 10/Dec 15
2007: Dec 10/Dec 15

So far, this year is entirely in line with past EA cycles. You need to be more patient.

If Chris is correct that the decision date won’t be released until next week, they are running a few days behind schedule.

They also received less applications this year, so they are necessarily spending [ever so slightly] longer on each applicant or working less. :P

Obviously working less. Did you see Chris’ blog post about the Harry Potter fan? He should be deciding our fates instead! Admissions officers shouldn’t have any breaks, the people demand answers!

id love to hear any College Rep blog about any dumb Harry Potter fan, but only after i got accepted.:)

That’s a little harsh. I mean, the adcoms are human and need breaks.

well i never meant to say anything that might offend their humanity. i was just kidding.

If you couldn’t tell, my post was obvious satire. I appreciate the adcoms processing so many applications in such a short time - it’s superhuman. I could never decide like that so quickly and put together any sort of good, cohesive student body.

College admissions person would be the most awful job. I’d be like “I want to admit everyone!” but then I wouldn’t be able to and it’d be like :(

Also according to the dates posted earlier, the decision date should be released in the next day or two!!! Only a couple more days of obsessively checking the blogs…

OBSESSIVELY. CHECKING. THE. BLOGS.

i have the page bookmarked on my phone so i can check throughout the day…

Can someone confirm this?
