Meylani vs. Barrons

For some reason, I found Meylani to be significantly EASIER than Barrons. Barrons was just ridiculous for me. Is something wrong with me? I know a lot of people have claimed that Meylani is supposedly HARDER than Barrons...

I have yet to hear about Meylani. What SAT II are you referring to specifically? Barron's tends to dominate the slot of hardest prep book in most categories regardless.

He's talking about math IIC, and i agree that Barron's is extremely hard, but Meylani's is just as hard, its different types of problems. ones that arent necessarily on the sat IIC, while barrons is just hardest of all the ones that are on it.

who is meylani? o_O are we talking about an author in a well-known test prep company? or is it just someone who wrote an SAT II prep book?

Yes, I'm talking about the Math IIC subject test. And Meylani is the author of the book.

I wonder why I would find Meylani to be easier than Barrons. Odd...

One of the major caveats against choosing prep books that aren't the main brands is that you don't know for sure that they're tailored to be similar to the SAT II. I'll admit, I have no idea about the book you bought, but the last time I used a book that was somewhat not the "mainstream" (I think it was a Grubers', so not even that out of it, oh and REA), the questions were just not the same as on the test. If Barrons is hard, at least its hard in that it WILL prepare you for the real thing. I would still put much more weight onto a practice test from Barron's, simply because its hard, but you get good results.

meylani is a crazy turkish dude who makes up ridiculous math problems for the sat ii although he has no idea what the test is really like. His last 35 problems are all like the last 5 or 10 on the real test. Despite this, that turk does a pretty good job of preparing you for the test.

meylani easier than barrons though? You're the first one out of thousands to say that.

Wow, I must really be crazy. But I kid you not. I'll get like a ridiculous amount wrong on Barrons... giving me like a 670 or so. And then I'll take Meylani and get a 750. Now, I'm starting to think that my brain just functions in a REALLY weird manner. I mean, has no one ever thought that Meylani is easier? AAh.

I was getting 650+ on meylani but I can score 800 on the real stuff. I guess you are a genius aquamarinee, cos meylani are really not easy. Other than being hard, I believe meylani are excellent prep for sat math 2.

How did you do on Barrons though? Did you score really high on Barrons? I did VERY bad on Barrons, so I don't think I'm anywhere near the level of a genius. I just think differently, I suppose.

Maybe you got to see the picasso behind the Degas or whatever that artists name was in Meylani.....:)

Barrons was somewhat easier....used Meylani though for the solid geometry

I got the idea that meylani is somewhat the superset of barron's in terms of question types and content, correct me if I am wrong. Some questions are pretty hard though. My scores on barron's are like 710-730.
