Miami university farmer school of business recognition in northeast

I am from NY. I was wondering what connections the FSB has in NYC and throughout the northeast. What are the benefits of attending Miami university instead of a school in the northeast like Bentley or Bryant.

I also was wondering if the chart on miamis webiste was accurate on the giving of merit scholafships. Do most people receive the amount of money that their SAT/ACT score qualifies for?

The chart is definitely accurate, but where you wind up within the range is hard to predict.

@1214mom‌ thank you that helps. Do you have any other info on Miami and it’s business school?

The business school seems very good to me. We visited and were very Impressed. It seems like there is so what of a rivalry between Miami Ohio and Indiana/Kelley, and people are passionate about comparisons. I don’t know what else you would like to know. My son wound up picking University of Maryland, our state flagship, but Miami Ohio was a close second. He liked it more than Indiana/Kelley.

Our son graduated from a strong public HS in Indiana and received direct admit to Kelley with a great scholarship, and a strong scholarship ti Miami. IU is ranked higher on most polls, but the smaller feel and the far less liberal environment, combined with the teaching reputation at Miami and the focus on undergraduate education led to the choice of Miami - even at a higher cost. They have a higher 4 year graduation rate than most schools. IU loses a ton of kids as freshman…just a LOT of freedom…and it really isn’t reported, since so many Indy kids come home and go to IUPUI. I cannot attest to the reputation of the school in the NE, but in the midwest, Miami grads are well respected. And their reputation as “J Crew U” turns out a kid who knows how to put him/her self together for the interview process. Whether you think that is important or not. Additionally, my son’s finance professor sat down with him before he applied for internships and helped him build an interview presentation and portfolio. With that preparation, he landed an outstanding internship. Not the kind of thing I found as an undergrad at IU.

Thank you for that wonderful and insightful info @debrockman‌

Specific to the Northeast, it might be worth your while to ask your Miami U admissions counselor for the contact info of the Miami U alumni chapter president in NYC or Boston or to research a listing (if available) of area employers of MU grads. MU alumni chapters tend to be pretty well organized nationwide, which can certainly help with networking.
