Miami University (Ohio) vs Depauw University (Indiana)

Hello everyone! So I’ve narrowed my college choices down to Miami and Depauw and I can’t decide which one to choose. I applied undecided to both of them and as of now, I’m leaning more towards finance/ business. Depauw is pretty flexible when it comes to changing majors while Miami is not as flexible when it comes to business. I’ll have to maintain a 3.5 GPA my first year and I’m not really sure as to how hard that would be. The cost would be the same for both schools. Right now, I currently participate in the sport of Rowing. Depauw doesn’t have a team while Miami has a small club. I’m not sure if this will be the deciding factor as Depauw has a large variety of clubs on campus and I would most likely join an honors fellowship. Which one do you think has the best reputation when it comes to future careers in the business field and more importantly, the academic reputation to help get into more competitive graduate programs?

Depauw is heavily fraternity and sorority. Does that matter to you?

DePauw does not officially HAVE a business degree, which was one of the reasons my son did not apply there and chose Miami, instead. He also applied to IU. He was admitted to Farmer, Direct Admit, Honors and completed the requirements for both Accounting and Finance. Miami Honors is a pretty structured program with a lot of advisors keeping the students on track. It is my opinion that like most smaller schools, kids are less likely to get lost there. My son felt like the atmosphere in the honors program really kept him on track. If you are really looking for a BUSINESS degree, such as accounting, you would be better off at IU or Miami than DePauw. If you are interested in professional school, it really wouldn’t make any difference. Son is now working in Finance, has passed multiple financial certifications and is applying to law school. His LSATs were excellent, so apparently his prep was on track, both in undergrad and test prep. Miami is also big into the greek system. Several houses have their Alpha houses there.
