Miami University Test Optional for Fall 2023?

Wondering if anyone knows if Miami of Ohio is going to be test-optional for Fall 2023 applicants or if they’ve made a decision yet? My daughter is a good student but generally a terrible test taker and hasn’t taken the SAT or ACT. Wondering if she should start studying if she decides she loves Miami. Thanks!

Their website says: * (Students are not required to provide an ACT or SAT test score for admission or scholarship consideration through Spring 2023.) If you are providing test scores, you may self report them through your Applicant Status Page.

Here are their FAQs - they are TO through Spring 23. That said, you still want to take the test - you never know - with prep, etc. I believe a score helps at most TO schools (if you have a good one) - in regards to merit. If you just want into Miami, it’s a relatively easy in and you’ll be fine.

Good luck.

Why does Miami University have a test-optional policy for standardized test (ACT/SAT) scores for the undergraduate admission process?

We recognize changes to test availability and testing environments due to the COVID-19 pandemic left many students with inequitable access to standardized tests. Miami has chosen to make test scores optional for students applying to the university through Spring 2023 to ensure equitable opportunity for admission, scholarships, and honors programs.

So do all think that means for students starting in Spring 2023 or just applying by then?

She is planning on taking the SAT in May but hasn’t stressed out about it at all because she’s planning on being TO given her history of bombing standardized tests. If she has to submit her scores, they’re probably not going to terrible terrible, just not an asset to her applications.

Thanks all for your help, obviously we are new at this.

It says through. Meaning you have one more year. So your current Junior can apply TO.

The SAT can be studied, strategies learned. She can do better than she expects.

Are you in-state or needing merit?

Assuming she’s got grades like you describe, Miami won’t be an issue as far as admission.

Thanks. No, we’re out of state and wouldn’t need much merit if any. If it’s TO, Miami should be a safety. Appreciate everyone’s help.
