Mich Econ or Villanova B-school

What would provide better job oppurtunities, a degree from Michigan in economics, or from Villanova's B-school?

Michigan econ. That is a top-class program not only by US standards, but comparing internationally as well.

I would have to disagree. Based on oppinion I feel as if Michigan econ will be given less attention than those students in the Ross school. Villanova Business with its growing reputation is a better bet with more options for majors unless your going for Ross. Both schools however have excellent reputations and a visiting should make your decision more clear

i was a student at michigan-ross and a lot of my friends are in both the business school and in lsa majoring in econ.

michigan econ is not given less attention than those students in the ross school. for example, goldman prefers to recruit at the liberal arts school rather than the business school. i also recall from a lot of corporate presentations during the year for ross students, the michigan alum that came to speak to us from firms like lehman bros, weren't even business majors.

the only differences are that the business school students have more resources and networking opportunities.

as for villanova b-school vs. michigan econ.. i'd have to say michigan econ. although villanova's b-school is up and coming and has a pretty solid reputation, michigan has for more recognition and a much better reputation all around the world. also, you can't forget about the amazing campus life at michigan compared to villanova's tiny campus in the suburbs of pa.

As I said before, when choosing between villanova business and mich econ, its also important that you factor in your major. If you want to do econ or finance, you can sit around and debate villanova or michigan all day, however if your interested in doing something such as Management Information Systems, Accounting, etc. then Villanova is going to provide these specialities in the business school to better educate you in your major and your curriculum is going to be more focused.

The statement about campus life at Michigan vs Villanova is irrelevent. I attended University of Maryland College Park last year, and transfered to Villanova. Maryland is a much bigger school however I find myself having more fun at Villanova with the more tightly knit community that exists here. Some people like large schools, others smaller, and most dont know until they've actually visited and experienced them.

Like I said before, your going to get a great job at either school, its important to see whats the better fit for you personally based on your major, personality, and judgement

Michigan Economics. UM has a better reputation and holds more prestige than Villanova. Michigan has a top 10 (in some rankings 11 or 12) Econ program. Networking wise, UM wins hands down.

Also OP make sure you know the difference between econ and business before you make this decision; that way you'll really know which program is best for you. A lot of people on this board seem to think business and econ are basically the same thing, when in reality they are quite different.

If you are interested in both economics and finance then I can understand applying to a business school and an econ program. However I cannot even imagine somebody who is interested in something like "management information systems" who would also apply for such a challenging economics program.

UMich Econ w/o a doubt. I love Nova, but I'd never go there over UMich. Not even close.

Yeahhh I'm gonna have to go with UMich Econ.
