Interests are Economics/Statistics/Mathematics/Finance and would like a business degree but not dead set on the last. Have not heard deision on UMich Ross BBA but in Villanova BBA
Been reading websites and mostly wondering about career services and job placement opportunities afterwards but also social life on campus. Thanks!!
They are all good schools. I don’t think Colgate has a business degree (I could be wrong), so keep that in mind. Bloomberg ranked Villanova as the top undergraduate business school recently (and Michigan 8 and W&M 12). My view, though, is Ross, if you are accepted, is actually the best known and will have some additional options and recruiters. It doesn’t look like you are wedded to business, though.
“Yes but Michigan is playing to get to ANOTHER National Championship in hockey as I write this!”
I like your spirit, but we must first beat Notre Dame before we get the chance to play for the national championship. The score is 2-2 late in the second period. Hopefully, we can close as strong as we started.
On a more serious note, FoxRulz, is there a cost element to consider? What is the most affordable option? Or is cost not a concern?
If you get into Ross, I think Michigan is the obvious choice…assuming it is not cost prohibitive of course. If you do not get into Ross, I would go with the best fit option, again, assuming it is affordable.
@Alexandre Thank you, cost isn’t an issue, although Villanova is the most expensive, OOS for both M and W&M so no break there. Agree with a Ross acceptance that is the likely choice, but if looking at it solely for a Liberal Arts degree, thinking Colgate or W&M may be better plus smaller class sizes throughout, but no big sports scene.
Ross seems impossible to get into if they are shooting for 500 enrolled, maybe they accept 1000 and a good percentage will be in state, or an athlete, and for a well rounded class split between men and women and diverse backgrounds, thus calculating a 1 in 200 shot at best or take a further break down by state you may only see 2 to 4 tops get in a given state. Not complaining at all just doing the math.
You are looking at the choice incorrectly if you think one of these fine colleges is “better” than the other(s). All of the colleges you are considering have excellent professors with doctorates from top universities. Undergraduates will not come close to exhausting the information they are capable of imparting.
So, it’s not a case of “better.” Its a case of “in which environment would I prefer to study?” Do you want a huge variety of classes from which to choose? Would you prefer a religious environment? Do you want bigtime sports? What sort of off-campus diversions do you prefer? The students at these colleges are all smart, but they differ in their politics, religion, geographical regions, etc. Are you interested in research?
“if looking at it solely for a Liberal Arts degree, thinking Colgate or W&M may be better plus smaller class sizes throughout, but no big sports scene.”
Classes at W&M will not be smaller than those at Michigan. Well, not classes you would be taking after freshman year anyway. That is especially true if you major in Financial Mathematics, Mathematics or Statistics. Classes at Colgate will definitely be smaller, but you will not have anywhere near the variety of classes that you would have on offer at Michigan.
Thanks, will hear (hopefully Friday) on Ross decision and if positive then decision will be made for Michigan if not likely going to accepted students days at W&M, Colgate and Villanova for one last view…Never thought it would be mid April and no decision.
@IzzoOne Thanks, haven’t heard from Ross school of business yet, they said maybe this Friday but by 5/1. So taking the time to revisit. At Colgate now for a day tomorrow. It is really in the middle of nowhere!! LOL, forgot how out there it is, definitely the opposite of Ann Arbor!
Regarding Ross and UMich, an acceptance there will likely seal the deal, but I can’t get past that they have not yet released all of the acceptances, it is not very thoughtful of the students and families.
“Ok, so I am going to revisit W&M and Colgate as I think they may be better than LSA UMich??? thoughts?”
They’re very different in how the campus feels, that should probably decide it. But UM has excellent programs in Math, Econ, Statistics, as good or better than the other colleges you’re considering.
Going Blue!!! I think it will challenge me in many ways, a little nervous because of the size, but because of that it will push me to be “bigger” and take chances! So lucky to have had such great choices!!
