Yeah, maybe we tire of rankings but hey, when Michigan is #1, why not put it out there. In this one, Michigan is ranked the #1 public college in America. It is largely based on 2013 data. The Big Ten fares well overall as well.
1st link below is the story and the 2nd link is the methodology. I largely think the methodology is not too bad - using 19 factors.

Meh…
Florida and Maryland in Top 10? UConn in Top 20?
The difference between the top ranked schools looks to be based on differences in room & board costs. Michigan was rated 4 stars on costs. Berkeley got 1 star on costs.
Yes, this this view comes at a cost:

UCB - I’ll agree with you on an issue with the cost factor. I see they use in state costs, but I believe Cal has a higher % of in state undergrad students. I guess you’d have to align the ranking for the benefit of in state students. But, yeah, that housing cost at Cal is up there.
I think it has been #2 in another ranking for a while.
“Meh…

But look, No UCLA!
@rjkofnovi UCLA is #6 on the list. Perhaps you have the other eye closed too.
hehe. I missed it. No wonder UCB doesn’t like it!
Further shows the reach of this university, Miss Bearcats and I found these bags at the proshop of a country club 1200 miles away from the university. Of course we are using them!
