Michigan Community Scholars Program

Hello,

I have enrolled in UM for fall 08 and I am deciding my housing options. Currently I'm interested in MCSP - any one has advice on it?

In addition to MCSP, I will be in honors program. I hope to do a concentration in psych and neuro in 3 years (possible with my A level advanced credits). Just wondering if MCSP will be too much to handle.

Thanks!

I'm currently in MCSP and would definitely recommend it. In terms of courseload well you'll be taking 1 3 credit seminar and 1 1 credit seminar for MCSP in your first semester. However, within the choice of the 3 credit seminars there are some physch courses which could count towards your concentration (you'll have to check)
In the second semester, you'll take a 2-3 credit Soc practicum course where you'll be actively involved in community service.

Outside courses, it's a friendly open community to be in, where it'll be easy to make friends with fellow freshman as well as having access to the experience and guidance of peer mentors, advisors and the faculty at MCSP.

Thanks for your response, gomez95!

The practicum course is in Soc - does this mean that I would find myself taking more credits than I require, since this does not fulfill my concentration? I'm concerned because of the need to rush my degree in 3 years.

Also, it seems like the Soc course requires more hours of community service than hours are awarded. Would you find this a burden?

Finally, how would you compare Couzens housing with South Quad?
