Sister currently goes to U of M

Reflection
Strengths: Course load, Extracurriculars, Essays (ish)
Weaknesses: SAT score - slight junior year grade drop
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Sister being in U of M already i think helped alot, My supplemental was about the Wilson Center - lots of specific info that showed my interest
Where else you are applying or have already applied:
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight:
Sorta scared about my acceptance being rescinded if I don’t take enough classes 2nd semester - I’m currently only signed up for 3 AP classes.

Decision: Deferrrrrrrrrred

Applied (ED,EA,RD): EA

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 650/690/760/8
ACT (breakdown): 34 (34 E/35 M/32 R/33 S/8)
SAT II: 770 Math II, 590 USH, 560 Lit (only submitted Math II lol)
GPA (out of 4.0): 3.91/4.37 (maxed out my schedule in difficulty, a lot of extra community college classes weren’t weighted)
Rank: 15/101 (super small, super competitive middle college high school)

Job/Work Experience: none
Volunteer/Community service: School National Honors Society got me about 100 hours cumulatively
Summer Activities: boatload of classes at the community college
Essays (rating 1-10, details): Honestly I have no idea, I’ll guess 7.5/10; it’s good not great, pretty well written IMO; I wrote about how my transition from childhood to adulthood happened when I moved; supplemental was very generic and probably a big reason why I was deferred

Teacher Rec #1: 8-Sophomore English teacher, probably well written
Teacher Rec #2: 9-Business professor from over summer who wrote a very professional letter; not super unique but a cool perspective to get
Counselor Rec: 8-I actually know who she is and she’s good at her job

Income Bracket: $280k+
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): nope…

Reflection:
Strengths: Overall test scores, passion for my major, Why LSA essay, Common App Essay, Rec letter.
Weaknesses: GPA (when is it not? but I had personal problems that were explained extensively through my app), Class Rank (my school is very VERY competitive), Short Response, Reading scores (690CR/28R lmao)
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: GPA was weak, Reading scores literally dragged everything down, and on top of that, half my materials came in late.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCI, UCSD, UCSB, Rice, SJSU, Cal Poly SLO (have to withdraw all), accepted to Santa Clara University (3k scholarship) and Scripps College (ED, so I have to attend).

Decision: Accepted

College (LSA, engineering, etc.): Engineering:

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 2150 one sitting (700 reading, 740 math, 710 writing)
ACT (breakdown): N/A
SAT II (place score in parentheses): 790 Math II, 690 US History
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.88 if we’re using the regular 4.0 scale where 90-92% is a 3.7 and 93%+ is a 4.0
Little back story:
My GPA my first two years was 3.57 if we don’t recalculate it to the 4.0 GPA scale because my high school used a horrible scale (91-93% for example was a 3.3; a 3.7 was 94-95%)
When I moved to my new high school my Junior year, it used the common 4.0 scale and I got a 4.0 GPA unweighted.
Michigan does not take weighted GPAs and they look at them in the context of your school, so don’t worry if you we’re in my situation.
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School doesn’t rank

Reflection
Strengths: SAT scores, grades, UMich supplements
Weaknesses: Common App essay not as strong as I would have liked, recs possibly pretty boring
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My Why UMich essay was very specific; I talked about classes and programs that interested me and how UMich was a great fit for me to pursue my academic and career goals. I was afraid the essay was a little dry (I’m not creative at all), but I really was able to express my interest in the school.
I also think the supplements (including the community essay) and my rec letter from my coach rounded me out as a person.

Reflection
Strengths: Hella leadership ECs and my awards are pretty good. I’m also in State.
Weaknesses:ACT obviously. If I had a 30 or higher, I’d definitely be accepted.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My ACT score and class rigor probably held me back from a straight up acceptance.
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: If you’re ACT is low like mine, don’t be intimidated by everyone stats here. Be proud of your score and be brave. Don’t even let it discourage you from applying anywhere.
