Hi,
I was accepted into Michigan LSA but denied from the Ross BBA program so I would have to major in Econ and apply for a minor in Business. But at SMU, I was accepted to the BBA scholars program. I also received the Provost Scholarship to SMU for $30,000/year. Money is not a swaying factor, though, since my parents will be covering the tuition. I’m interested in a career in Investment banking/real estate. I’m really split between the two and I was looking for some advice to help me make my decision. Thanks!
SMU for sure. Have visited both. Cox is good, and their Alt Assets program is great program as is real estate. to me is too big a risk to not have admission to Ross when you have a top 25 alternative at Cox. Not to mention better weather, nicer campus etc.
did you apply anywhere else?
SMU
Getting into Ross as a minor is still very competitive and not a guarantee. You can still reach your goals not being in Ross. Speak to an advisor how you get there without Ross. If your accepted somewhere else with a guarantee… Then that is your decision. Saving your parents some money is also a nice idea. Just because they can doesn’t mean they should.
Since you want to go into business and it seems money is not an issue… Negotiate with your parents to put 1/2 of what they were going to give you in an ira or investment vehicle for you. That would be a nice way to end college.
Or maybe being debt free after 4 years would out way just about any school you could think of.
Just something to think about.

Ya, accepted in UIUC, Wisconsin, BC, SDSU, Indiana, waitlisted at UCSB. Thank you for your note!
At BC, were you admitted into Carroll? How about IU? Were you admitted into Kelley? Those two would be excellent options too. You have many good schools to choose from.
Yes, I got into Carroll and Kelley but I haven’t given them much thought. Are these better options?
You got into Carroll and Kelley and you want to be in banking or real estate? Have you been on Poets and Quants or looked at where the most dynamic real estate market in the country is right now. And the home of investment management giants etc. the biggest institutional purchaser of commercial real estate is big insurance companies. The powerhouses are in New England and nyc.
If money is no object and you are not totally against Catholicism or ACC sports. I am surprised this isn’t a pretty straightforward decision. BC Carroll and Boston itself.
Kelley is great too but I don’t think it has the same access to internships or local alumni network that compares to what it’s like to be a bc Carroll student in Boston. Thick as thrives they are.
Hi, thank you for your advice and I’ll definitely look further into BC. I don’t know if they have what I’m looking for in the social aspect though.
If i plan to pursue my MBA, would the BBA program at SMU still be important? Because at this point I am kind of leaning towards Michigan.
