Michigan has over 10,000 posts

Michigan has over 10,000 posts. We are way better than Michigan right? I know, Michigan is a huge school and naturally they will have more people posting on their board, but remember we are UVa. Let's make sure everyone knows we are the best, whether it be academically or by number of posts!

OK. I'll help.

There used to be a big, heated debate about "who's better, Michigan or UVa" on this board. UVa is ranked slightly above Michigan on the USNWR survey, but they're so close that it would take a micrometer to measure it.

But that doesn't stop people from going overboard!

Michigan is bigger. It accepts a larger percentage of applicants. In the sciences and engineering, I think Michigan benefits from its size.

UVa is a sliver better in wide range of college majors, from poly sci to business (or "commerce" as they call it in Jeffersonland). And, in my humble opinion, UVa has a more "hallowed" tradition. The UVa story is really a key part of the development of college education in America.

The UVa president, last year, made the point that the per-student endowment at UVa is about twice the size of Michigan. I'm not sure that helps you through economics of banking or differential equations, but there you are.

But, really, you'll get a terrific education at either school. And, for in-state students, they are both a bargain.

Chalk up one more post on our way to 10,000!

RB

Michigan also has as of tomorrow 4 football losses, which works out to one loss for every 2500 posts.

I have to agree with joev, Michigan will probably lose tomorrow to Penn State as we will probably lose to FSU. joev, are you are from Penn State or Ohio State (got that from "Cleveland" Location)?

I don't remember the UVa vs. UMich arguement, but I am going to start it again by giving a one-sided representation of the important "facts" :)

Michigan sucks at football (at least this year). Even Michigan fans will agree. They will also probably agree that they have no chance against OSU this year.

Michigan has always sucked at basketball and will continue this storied past for the foreseeable future.

Average temperature in Michigan is 0 K. This is one of the few places in the universe, if not the only place, where the temperature can actually drop below 0 K.

From what I saw, UVa girls are much, much better looking than girls at Michigan

Michigan was founded by the Michigan Legislature, Virginia was founded by Thomas Jefferson

Michigan "fight song" sucks compared to Virginia's "good old song"

In short, Virginia is a public ivy with great weather, good-looking girls, and a great reputation. While Michigan is a large state school that is only good at football and apparently they can't even do that very well. Comments on why Virginia is better than Michigan would be appreciated - especially ones which anger Michigan alums.

Michigan won. Eat that.

Michigan sucks at football? When was the last time Virginia won the national championship, or even the ACC? Their fight song sucks? No one even knows Virginia's fight song. We would beat Virginia in basketball. And my girlfriend isn't bad looking at all. And if you think Virginia is a Public Ivy, and Michigan isn't you're insane.

Shut up, you don't know what you're talking about.

So, VaAlum, what are you using for bait these days?

Heh.

Well, clearly you did not read the first half of my post - please try reading it again. If you have any questions or need anything clarified, please let me know - and also thank you for contributing to the number of posts on the UVa thread. However, just to annoy you some more, here are some jokes (yes, just friendly jokes) I found on <a href="http://www.ahajokes.com/michigan_jokes.html:%5B/url%5D">www.ahajokes.com/michigan_jokes.html:</a></p>

Q: Why do University of Michigan fans keep their diplomas on their dashboards?
A: So they can park in handicap spaces.

Q: What do you call a good looking girl on the University of Michigan campus?
A: A visitor.

Q: How many University of Michigan freshman does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None, it's a sophomore course.

Q: Did you hear about the power outage at the University of Michigan library?
A: Forty students were stuck on the escalator for three hours.

Enjoy.

hey, a2wolves, UVA had tiki and ronde barber, plus we had arron brooks. who does UM have? We beat number 4, u guys beat number 8. we're clearly better

Hey, wait a minute...I just realized that about 4,000 of Michigan's posts are from 1 person, Alexandre. So, because we are a smaller school, we really have more posts per person.

UVa

5478 Posts / 19643 Students = 27.9%

Michigan

10186 Posts / 39533 Students = 25.7%
(10186-3885) Posts / 39533 Students = 15.9%

We win either way. Go Cavaliers!
(Yeah, I'm bored)

^^^^ HAS ABSOLUTELY NO LOGIC AND WONT GET INTO EITHER SCHOOL^^^^

Michigan: Tom Brady, Ty Law, Charles Woodson, Brian Griese, Chris Perry, Anthony Thomas, Braylon Edwards, Steve Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Jeff Backus, David Terrell, James Hall, Ian Gold, Jon Jansen, Aaron Shea, David Baas, Amani Toomer, Victor Hobson, Cato June, Marlin Jackson, i'm sure there are more, this is off the top of my head.

And please tell me, since when do you judge a team based on one game due to their opponent they played? Is that the only thing you know about Virginia, is the last upset victory they had? Notice how I said upset, because Michigan was favored to win, because they are a better team. They don't lose to crappy teams like Maryland.

i was at that UVA-FSU game, i played in the marching band, one of the best games EVER...................damn, it was HAWT!

mmmmm at UVA, foootball games are FREE for UVa students (u just walk in with ur student ID, we have 63,000 screaming cav fans in our awesome stadium every game)).....my Michigan friends told me EVEN IF u were a Michigan student, u still had to pay to watch home games...........what the hell?

Hey if you look at the polls, guess who's ranked and who's unranked?

Go Cavaliers!

Hey a2wolves, from your other posts, it seems like you are not even a student at UMich. Why such a big UMich fan?

I will be a student and I live in A2 and I root for my hometown team.

Well, your a brave man, A2! You "will be a student". Does that mean you're a HS senior? How do you know? That's REALLY early decision, no?

Anyway, good luck, and good for you sticking up for yer hometown.

Oh, and thanks for increasing the UVa post count!

lol a2wolves, i knew u were gonna hit me with brady ****, lol

UMich's wrestling team owns the UVA wrestling team

I want to help with the UVA post...Pat Mellors was the ACC Swimmer of the Year..

uva has hotter girls

Alrighty really quick... I don't want to knock Virginia as I have alot of respect for the insitution. However, the posters here seem to have quite an inferiority complex.

First of all, as far as academics are concerned, Michigan has the most ranked programs in the nation save Stanford and Berkeley. Virginia? They're down the list. Don't believe me? Look them up and count them.

Also, USNews selectivity ranking consistently has Michigan above Virginia. Last year Michigan was 18, Virginia was in the mid 20's. I don't know what this years selectivity ranking is. Look it up. The story is probably the same.

Peer assessment, which is how academics across the nation rate an institutions academic quality. For undergrad last year, Michigan was 4.6/5... what was Virginia? 4.4/5.0 Yes, its fairly insignificant but nonetheless its a very important ranking that indicates a school's reputation to those who matter.

Here's a Gerhard Casper, former president of Stanford University, writing a letter to USNews critcizing their ranking system. He stated this:

<a href="http://www.stanford.edu/dept/pres-provost/president/speeches/961206gcfallow.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.stanford.edu/dept/pres-provost/president/speeches/961206gcfallow.html</a></p>

I am extremely skeptical that the quality of a university - any more than the quality of a magazine - can be measured statistically. However, even if it can, the producers of the U.S. News rankings remain far from discovering the method. Let me offer as prima facie evidence two great public universities: the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and the University of California-Berkeley. These clearly are among the very best universities in America - one could make a strong argument for either in the top half-dozen. Yet, in the last three years, the U.S. News formula has assigned them ranks that lead many readers to infer that they are second rate: Michigan 21-24-24, and Berkeley 23-26-27.

and where exactly does he mention Virginia? Mind you he's referring to undergraduate education.

How about research? Michigan is #1 in the country in overall expenditure. Michigan is known for ground breaking research. Virginia is not.

Michigan has the largest university run medical system in the nation.

Now would you like me to get into sports? Who has the winningest program in football history? who is a contender for the directors cup year in and year out? I believe Michigan was 2nd or third last year and 2nd the year before. Please tell me where Virginia lands because I know it isnt anywhere close. (for those that don't know, the directors cup is for entire athletic program performance)

I could go on and on here.

The University of Michigan and the University of Virginia are both phenomenal universities with sterling reputations for academic and athletic excellence. But please, don't get this overinflated opinion of Virginia vs Michigan because for this one year, Virginia is ahead of Michigan in the football polls. Or think for a second that Virginia is one up on Michigan in terms of academics because that couldn't be further from the truth.

They're both fantastic... but they're different. Virginia may suit one student better while for another student, Michigan is a better fit. Lets just leave it at that.

Just for the record, Joev is an Ohio Resident. :D
