“Hey, I’m going to Michigan to, so me and you have the same chances of making it big. So in essence you can’t make any assumptions that you will be more successful than anyone else, especially since most people on this thread are attending, attended or plan to attend Michigan.”

No, you don’t have the same chance. Bearcats can explain to you. If I do, you’ll attack me again for being cocky.

“How are you a realist?” - in that I don’t give a crap about being a fake, as long as I get what I want, money and career.

Please have bearcats explain on this forum why you have the best chance to be successful and why others that are going to the same school don’t.

That’s not being real. Being real is expressing what’s on your mind and your opinions on things. Whether its in real life or on the internet. Basically “telling it how it is.”

It’s good that you want money and a career. I believe you will be successful. I want every person that goes to Michigan and to other universities to be successful. I like having a positive outlook on things. Being negative and bitter in instances like this is a waste of time.

I was referring to expressing what’s on your mind in real life. You are being real by expressing your feelings and thoughts on this forum. I said you were fake, because you don’t have the balls to say what you feel/think to the people that you know, or encounter. Even if its smart not to do so, you still are a coward. That’s why you feel the need to do it on an anonymous forum. At the same time, most people don’t want to be hated. So I understand why you don’t do it.

On another note…

Michigan is a selective school. However it isn’t as selective as other top universities. I’m still baffled at how Michigan is able to keep a 42-49% acceptance rate with the quality of applicants it accepts.

Entertainer, I don’t care about being a fake in real life. If I need to be a coward in order to get rich, have a career and prestige, then fine. I really couldn’t care less about being a fake/coward.

Stop replying to this guy, you’re better than that. Guy has no character, just stop. I think we’re all tired of seeing this at the top of the page (obviously I’m not helping things). This thread has turned from a mildly insulting thread to somewhat amusing to full out ridiculous. If you read this, do everyone a favor and don’t reply. Much like a ■■■■■, this thing will die when it’s ignored

“It doesn’t matter how you perceive me Entertainer and roman. As long as my family’s contacts in the private elite circle can get me top internships, and be rich, I don’t really care about how you think.”

LMAO. That’s the most superficial thing I’ve ever heard.

Dude, you don’t get it! You’re using two criteria to assert that 75% of the Michigan student body is unintelligent. You’re clearly a pretty smart guy, so you must realize how ridiculous that is. SAT and GPA alone do not define intelligence.

And just so you know, a 1330/2000 SAT equates to about a 140 IQ, which is generally considered low-end genius.

number 1, you have said so many more outlandish things so far it is really just making me laugh. First of all, you are equating money with happiness. You said you do not care about logical fallacies(the form of proper argumentation) because you will be too busy making money while I will be poor.

First of all, how can you go into any form of math or science and laugh at logic? You are an idiot. Logic is the cornerstone on which those two disciplines are built. Very short sighted and ignorant. Second of all you also said all you care about is being rich. Will that make you happy? Even if I am a broke homeless man with a philosophy degree I would be happy, because I would have pursued what I have loved. If you are doing it for money, you are doing it for the wrong reasons. I can not wait until you burn out.

You probably will get a white collar job if you have the credentials you say you have. Then the economy will tank and you will get fired. Broke, broken, and alone you will have nothing but a degree from a school where the majority of students were stupid.

You can’t predict the future, and you can not accurately make this wild assumptions about the student body at the university of michigan.

P.S. I hope you actually learn to check your ego at the door. The world does not revolve around you. No matter how smart you think you are, in comparison to many, many others you are stupid. Please realize that. It doesn’t mean you are stupid, you just need to look around you and realize that you are just a grain of sand in a desert. You don’t matter. No matter how much you think you do. Take your “elite” job. I’ll take the one I love.

“Please have bearcats explain on this forum why you have the best chance to be successful and why others that are going to the same school don’t.”
"Bearcats already answered your question in post 216 and I answered it in post 218. "

This is true and not true. But in most case it is not true. It is just the same argument as you know…someone from a wealthy family would have a leg up in securing the best jobs because his/her family knows the right people. Some of the prestigious high school has the same effect. You have a bunch of really wealthy kids in a high school and you are bound to be friends with some of them; and some of them will help you down the road. But these are exceptions, not the norm. Less than 1% of the kids at Michigan comes from these background so it is rather pointless to talk about it.

The best way to put it is, for 99% of the student body, what entertainer said is true. Everyone starts from the same page. Obviously someone who has a better high school education has a better chance to do well in college because he/she is better prepared. But it doesnt matter. The less prepared person can work twice as hard, make up for it and still be as successful.

For the rest of 1% with connections, sure, they will have an advantage… but isnt it the same way for let’s say…how did George Bush get into Andover in first place…and then with a C average from Andover, he got into yale? How did that happen? Connections connections connection. But this is a very minor proportion. You dont have to worry aobut that.

Just work hard and you have the same chance to succeed as MOST students at U of M

krw, “Dude, you don’t get it! You’re using two criteria to assert that 75% of the Michigan student body is unintelligent. You’re clearly a pretty smart guy, so you must realize how ridiculous that is. SAT and GPA alone do not define intelligence.”

HOW MANY TIMES TO YOU *ING WANT ME TO SAY THAT MY ORIGNAL USE OF “STUPID” WAS TO SAY THAT THESE KIDS HAVE LOW STATS AND NOT DOING STUPID THINGS? Of course, later, I said that I also believe that these kids with low stats do stupid things, but the main issue is about these kids having low stats, not *ing intelligence, even though there is correlation. Read the entire thread before you reply again.

Rageroolz, you want to talk about logic? I’ll give you logic. You, my inferior person, has commited logical fallacy.
You thought “Then the economy will tank and you will get fired.” Are you aware of universal generalization? Just because some people went down because of the economy does not mean everyone will. My parents have endured recessions and yet, my dad alone earns more than most American family (sons, daughters combined with their parents).
“You can’t predict the future, and you can not accurately make this wild assumptions about the student body at the university of michigan.” Are you aware that I’m talking about their performanc in college and stats alone, not whether they do stupid things and think stupidly (although I do believe so). HS performance correlates college performance.
“Even if I am a broke homeless man with a philosophy degree I would be happy” Very honorable. i don’t give a ****.

“P.S. I hope you actually learn to check your ego at the door. The world does not revolve around you. No matter how smart you think you are, in comparison to many, many others you are stupid.”

If by stupid you mean low stats, then you, along with the lower 75% must be ■■■■■■■■.

"Take your “elite” job. I’ll take the one I love. "

My elite job is also what I love. And for your information, I actually enjoy the work I do.

Number 1: your just the type of kid that walks around campus thinking your hot ***** and then either gets mugged by one of the “stupid” bums or gets punched out by a girl half your size at a party.

“Number 1: your just the type of kid that walks around campus thinking your hot ***** and then either gets mugged by one of the “stupid” bums or gets punched out by a girl half your size at a party.”

Again, READ THE ENTIRE ****ING THREAD BEFORE POSTING!!!
In real life I never talk like this. Just like bankers never talk the way they do on their forums in real life. Damn, it is hard explaining to stupid ppl.

I’d just like to lend my $.02 (as someone who does not attend Michigan, but was admitted a few years ago and currently attends another top-tier university).

What it really boils down to is if you want to be the type of person who judges a university by their acceptance rate, or by what it has done with the students it has been given. For some, Michigan will not be “good enough.” The 30+% admit rate will simply not cut it when they can get into Harvard, Yale or Stanford. Of course, by this measure, the Juliard School of Music dominates the world’s academic scene, with an admit rate of 5%.

For others, Michigan’s admissions %, or their average GPA, won’t matter. They’ll look at the alumni and realize the university claims a former President. It’s hospital has saved thousands of lives not only in direct care, but in researching disease control and eradication. In a desolate economy, the university has provided a bright spot to students whose families are struggling to overcome a demolished job market. The Ann Arbor campus has supplied the world with 26 Rhodes Scholars, 7 Nobel Laureates and 9 astronauts.

So, is Michigan “selective”? Well, it depends on how you define the term. Maybe it’s not as selective as Juliard, Harvard or Yale in the % it admits, but that’s okay; percentages don’t make society, people do. And in the case of the students at Michigan, there are few schools that rival their drive and commitment to excellence.

Going to a university isn’t about seeing which school can top Forbes, USNWR, etc. The true value of an education lies in an education in values.

Best of luck to all of you in your collegiate endeavors.
