Hello, I am just wondering about how would you compare Michigan State and Iowa. I have been accepted into both. I am OOS for both but money is not a concern. Which school is better for business? Which is better experience? Which is in better college town? Thanks for your time.
Congratulations! I would think that as college towns they might be somewhat similar experiences. East Lansing is in a bigger metro area but I’m not sure MSU students spend much time in Lansing. For business, MSU is known for supply chain mgmt and is a somewhat more diverse campus but otherwise it’s not clear which one is best!
if you believe in rankings, michigan state is ranked higher by US News. Otherwise go with the one that offers a direct admit to business school.
With the exception of maybe supply chain or a desire to work in automotive go for the best feel. Congrats
I grew up right at the edge of the Michigan State campus. I highly receommend Michigan State. The business school is excellent, with plenty of connections in nearby Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids (East Grand Rapids is a very affluent community) and Detroit. You may even end up at grad school at the University of Michigan.
MSU is a land grant college, so the campus is very large and beautiful in the spring, summer and fall. The Red Cedar river flows through the center of campus and a main walking/jogging/biking path follows the river on both sides.
The awesome MSU Dairy Store on campus makes ice cream and cheese from cows on the campus, and students work in the cafe. THE BEST Michigan black cherry ice cream in the universe.
East Lansing is a fantastic college town. Two local public school systems (in case you stay long term) Okemos and East Lansing are stellar. My high school prom was in the MSU Union!
Great Big Ten sports, golf courses, a university country club with an amazing pool and restaurant, the MAC Michigan Athletic Club gym, many small and large nearby lakes, great restaurants and bars directly next to campus, grocery stores, book shops, a mall in adjacent Okemos. There are fantastic weekend road trip opportunities to go “up north” as we say … into the northern parts of Michigan where there are many, many lakes and resort towns. I am not a hunter, but growing up, almost all of my friends’ families had a cabin “up north” for hunting and lake sports.
The Lansing airport is easy to navigate. I usually fly home direct from many large US cities to nearby Grand Rapids.
I love it back home. The MSU fight song is playing in my head as I type this …
Iowa has cows and ice cream too.
Well, you evidently haven’t been to the MSU dairy store .
First campus fit and feel. But then. Go to MSU. Beautiful laid back campus with great opportunities.
If you qualify for their honors college it’s really great and think you still can qualify to close to half tuition scholarship for oos with mentoring and research with study abroad… They are much more then supply chain…
My father had a faculty position at MSU before we moved to Israel, so I have fond memories of East Lansing (although I was pretty young - I left after 2nd grade).
