Oh my gosh! Same! And also a full IB candidate. That’s something! Hopefully good news coming to all of us❤️
Friend kid just got accepted civil engineering. He is an international student.
Got admission 10/19 and was hoping for honors college by now, could anyone provide insight on my chances?
4.2 gpa, 1500 SAT, and 13 AP classes oos applicant applying electrical engineering
Is GPA too low to be competitive? I was wondering if this could be my limiting factor here.
S24 is also 4.2 and accepted 10/19. No honors here yet. Do you suppose it also depends on major? S24 is hoping for direct admit for business.
My D24 was accepted back in mid October and has not received an honors invite yet. Higher stats than my S22 that received an invite and ultimately chose another school and my senior at MSU. We are OOS. I think it just takes time and they roll out periodically.
I suppose it is possible however I imagine it is unlikely as they have never stated this. I think that I could be limited by my gpa as at my school 4.2 is not top 5% and probably only top 30%. However many students wont apply to msu so I don’t think this would greatly impact me. Not really sure though.
D24 got her notification of honors college invitation today (11/22). She was accepted Oct 18th, so about 5 weeks after acceptance.
D24 was admitted into MSU on 10/18 and received the honors invite yesterday, so about 5.5 weeks. She also got the following dates for the Alumni Distinguished Scholarship weekends:
Please plan to join us for either Friday, Jan. 26 or Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, to compete for additional scholarships
Did you get an email alerting about the invite? Or are you checking portal regularly? I don’t want S24 to be checking all the time for something he might never get. That seems a little demoralizing. That said, if we need to plan travel in 2 months, I’d like to know sooner rather than later!
My DD got an email last week saying there is a message from MSU’s Honors College and check the portal.
@Midwestmom2022 D24 has not received the email yet. She happened to check the portal and saw the honors tab there.
For us, Honors tab was there from day one but had no content. When we checked after last week’s email, there was Honors college invitation.
DD got the same email. There was no Honors tab on the portal until after she got the email with the invitation.
Son was admitted 10/18 and also awaiting word about Honors. When you refer to the portal, do you mean your child’s “account”? Ours only has his application listed there. When you click on that, the acceptance letter pops up and there is a Financial tab. Is this where the honors tab or an invitation would show? He has not set up his Net ID because he assumes he only receives the Access Number needed to set that up once he commits. Are we missing something? Would greatly appreciate any help.
My understanding is that there is an honors tab that will show up next to the financial tab.
S24 accepted 10/19 and does not have an honors tab.
That is exactly right.
There are 3 tabs for DD now:
*Home
*Financial Aid and Scholarships
*Honors College
The first two were always there. The honors tab showed up once she got the honors invitation email.
Not exactly sure what is required to set up a NetID - but he should be checking his MSU email regularly. That is the address they will most likely use to communicate with him - including any honors invites.
My DD set hers up to forward to a personal email account so she doesn’t miss anything. Can be hard monitoring the school emails for multiple schools but that is what seems to be needed now.
I thought you only set up the NetID/email if you were agreeing to enroll. Are you saying your DD has an MSU email?
My DD did accept MSU already, so probably not a good example.
But my DS went through this two years ago and had set up email with multiple schools including MSU (think it was 5-6 total) before he had decided or committed to any of them. Not sure if things have changed in the last couple of years or MSU does things differently. I just know we were monitoring multiple college emails as we went through the final decision process.
Sorry I can’t help more.
Ok, I went back and looked carefully again on the Congratulations page with the Home and Financial Tabs and if you scroll way down, you will see there is a button to see your PAN, the Personal Access Number. I don’t see anywhere that it says to only set the email up after enrolling, so I assume they want you to activate those now even before you commit.
