Is michigan worth 60k in loans when I can go to maryland for free with extra spending money?

I plan on studying aerospace engineering. Michigan is ranked #3 and Maryland #9. In addition, I would like to conduct research in a UROP Program. From what I hear, only MIT's program is superior to Michigan's.

I am looking to attend a top graduate school. Should I go to maryland so I can afford a better graduate school?

I took a tour of the engineering department at Maryland today. It was amazing! They are actually willing to fund up to $100,000 if you have an idea for a research project.

I'll be attending Maryland for sure next year. I'm participating in the honors and scholars program.

How hard is it to maintain a 3.8/3.9 engineering gpa? Is that like top 3%?

you'll have a lot of fun there next year =). Make sure you nail down your first two years as the difficulty jumps significantly your junior year. Learn about professors that you are taking classes with (their tendencies, grading, exam style, etc). Most importantly, go to all your classes. If you can do all that, 3.5 is a guarantee. 3.8-3.9, you'll really need to understand the material.
