Michigan vs UCLA vs NYU... :(

Haha, I see a lot of threads where it's between Michigan and UCLA but I also have NYU thrown into the mix. Just to start, finances are NOT an issue (I didn't even get any aid from any of these schools... just loans.) Well, they are an issue but my parents told me to not consider them. They're all out of state (I'm from Illinois).

I'm going in as a math major and I'm going premed. Aside from that I don't really have any special things that are important. I've visited Michigan and NYU and I loved both Michigan's campus and NYU's lack of a campus. I'm flying out to UCLA on April 13 to look at it.

Since this is on the Michigan thread, I guess I'm asking you guys to convince me to come to Michigan over the other two. :) Thank you~

Between all 3 schools, I don’t think which one you go for undergraduate pre-med will really matter. As for math, they’re all within the same tier.

Personally.
I’d choose UCLA for the weather.
I’d choose UMich for the school spirit.
I’d choose NYU for the city.

They’re all out-of-state? Go with the best financial aid package and environment (for your sake). Did you get accepted to any Illinois university? Of the three, I would say Michigan is the cheapest (before financial aid considerations).

ForeverAlone- haha, yeah those are the three main things I’ve attached to each school. I guess I should decide which one I care about the most but they’re all pretty big factors for me.

tenisghs- I did get into University of Illinois but I already decided I’m not going there unless my family suddenly undergoes a lot of financial stress or something. Michigan is the cheapest at about 50k and then ~55k for UCLA and ~60k for NYU (I got no aid; only loans.) I think that the school I want to go to the most is NYU but I’m trying to find justification because it’s the most expensive…

if your family is comfortable with paying 200k for your undergrad given the fact that you plan on going to med school, i doubt the 5-10k a year difference is a worthwhile factor.

"Just to start, finances are NOT an issue "

and

“I think that the school I want to go to the most is NYU”

I do not see the problem. Why are you asking us? Go for NYU.

As there is no campus and virtually no sports at NYU, there is no school spirit. If you don’t care about that go NYU, if you do care (and MIchigan home game Saturdays is one of the great experiences anywhere) go to UM.

NYU doesn’t have a campus really. It’s mixed in with the city. But you might like that. It’s in the Village which is cool. Lots happening in NY. Could distract from studying.

Michigan will have stronger students than NYU in general. If you are a serious intellectual, I’d go with Michigan. Best campus too. But skies are grey in winter, so if you have SAD, wouldn’t be good.

UCLA is warm weather, but I like 4 seasons. Autumn in Ann Arbor is gorgeous. Spring too.
