Michigan worth the cost OOS?

Alright this is pretty much a two part question. The first is realistically how much will it cost me to go to Michigan out of state(including living expenses) without any financial aid. Is 40K a good estimate?

Second, is the school worth it? Ive always been a big Michigan fan and I am an economics major but I am not sure if the school is prestigious enough to pay that kind of money.

compare to most privates, Mich tuition is a steal man, and u probably get a just as good, if not better education at mich. i got the fat letter from stern man, lol... and u tell me whether thats worth it...

In my situation, (Michigan has better business and economics compared to other schools I have been accepted to) I think the approx. 42k OOS cost is worth it.

UMich is pretty prestigious in finance, business, and economics. it really depends on your other options though

Ryan, whether or not Michigan is worth the price depends on two things:

1) Your alternatives. If you are chosing between Michigan and Harvard or MIT or Yale, then obviously, the decision is tricky. But other than 5 or so universities, Michigan is as prestigious as they come.

2) Your family's financial situation. No university, no matter how good or prestigious, is worth the farm. If your folks can afford the cost or if you can manage without getting into debt, then yes, Michigan is more than worth its high cost. But if your parents have to sacrifice and/or if you must go into significant debt to attend Michigan (or any university for that matter), then I don't think it is worth it.

Hey,

I think that 40k/year is an enormous amount for any family to bear even if you are very wealthly. Just depends if your family is willing to pay and your options. If you got accepted to your state school which could be prestigious and academically sound, then I would pick that state school over Umich anyday. There are many benefits like lower tutition and even scholarships, but the school could not be as great as Umich. For example, If you are from Va then pick UVa..or from Ca, then pick UC's..or from NC, then pick UNC.

Thats just my opinion.. Gl on your decision

I really hope it is, coz i'm highly considering it (from Cali).

where are you guys getting the 40+ figure.. I thought it was around 30 for OOS?

40K is the total cost of attendence, including tuition, room & board, books, entertainment, medical inssurance etc... That's not bad considering most of Michigan's peers cost over $45 K.
