I am a junior who has taken several pre-AP courses freshman and sophomore year and 2 AP this year. I am definitely planning on taking AP English next year, and I am trying to get switched into AcDec (an honors course) and AP Euro as well (but have to wait until beginning of year to see if I can switch). I feel like I am lacking in the rigor of my course load, especially because I go to a school that offers a lot of AP. But, I don’t feel the need to load up on a ton because I have a 4.18 and 32 on the ACT, and I am involved in various honor societies, have leadership positions in several clubs, and have participated in the Michigan math program last year and am going again (and I am in love completely with everything about the school so that will hopefully come through in essays). Also, I kind of ran out of space for more advanced courses as I have two periods next year that will be reserved for an internship. Does Michigan really really care about rigor of course load- am I in trouble?
Are you in state? Can you study and gain another point on the ACT?
@intparent I am from Dallas I also compete in UIL (academic competitions) writing events and hopefully will have an internship related to English, which will hopefully help applying to LSA. What do you think?
I’d say you should try to boost you ACT to improve your chances. Can you afford OOS tuition?
@intparent yes! Do you think I have a least a decent chance? Someone from my school got in last year with a 3.9, and another person with a lower GPA also.
Michigan is getting harder for out of state applicants. The valedictorian of my daughter’s school with perfect stats and amazing ECs was waitlisted, as was my daughter with stats just slightly higher than yours. Both applied early access, were deferred to regular decision, and then waitlisted. Last year, the acceptance rate for out of stat applicants was around 22%. It is projected to be even lower this year. Certainly keep it on your list but it’s a reach school.

22-24% was the overall acceptance rate momofsenior1. For OOS applicants, the acceptance rate likely dropped to 15-17%.
