do I really need microsoft word? I survived highschool with works lol. um...should I wait till school starts and just purchase the software from the bookstore? maybe I'll get a student discount?

Office '07 Student and Teacher is $99 regularly, it's probably $70-$80 from the student store. You need office. And come on...it's really not that much.

What kinda comp do you have? If its an Apple there are a couple free word processors out there.

i have vista. well i just wanted to know if i needed to purchase Word immediately. i went through high school without it. i'll just wait until school starts.

If you want, come see me when school starts, I've got Office 2003 that I can install for you.

Office 2003 is fine and all, it will definitely work, but if you don't mind spending some, Office 2007 is really nice. It basically has a brand new interface for everything and really makes documents look professional (noticeably better than a similar '03 document).

^

I also think the that the office 2007 format takes time to get use to, esp since most are use to the office 2k3/xp versions.

Do you know anyone with the Office CD that you can use?

Or, there are plenty of open source alternatives out there that many people like, like Open Office.

Personally, I grew up on Office, and really got used to Office 2k3, so I don't mind paying for it...

But open office is a pretty solid alternative and is (mostly) compatible with the Office suite.
