microwaves and refrigs.

Question about microwaves and refrigerators: Do most people rent the micro-fridge for their dorm rooms or do they purchase their own? I thought that you could have both a microwave <1200 watts and a refrigerator <than 5.0 cubic. I have recently seen that you can have one or the other unless you purcase an allocator which turns off the refrigerator when the microwave is in use. According to the brochure that was sent to our house, if you rent the micro-fridge it has the allocator feature. Does anyone know how much the allocator is if you purchase your own? Price: $189 for micro-fridge rental for the year.
Just wanted to find out what most students do! Thanks!

It's definitely cheaper to just buy one whether it has an allocater or not.
It cost less then $100.

I have the same question. Wonwon, what costs less than $100? I already have a microwave and a refrigerator ready for use, so I don't need a "micro-fridge" but I have no idea how much an allocator costs, and have had trouble finding them when I look them up online. Someone told me though to just bring the refrigerator and microwave without the allocator and see if anyone says anything...i don't know...?

a Fridge.

And, that's what I am doing too.
Screw an allocator -.O

YES!!! :) I doubt anything would be done about it

wat exactly is an allocator??

it gives power to only one appliance at a time. It is supposedly part of the fire regualtion code or something

You can purchase a power allocator at compactappliance.com for $39. It is called "amperage overload protector" and is made by Avanti.
