Mid-year grades?

I just got my letter of acceptance and it says that a final transcript is required to show completion of HS. Does Stony also require a mid-year grade report?

I am fine with that, I just want to know since it doesn't say it anywhere on the letter.

Thanks

If you've already been admitted, then NO, we do NOT need a mid-year report, just your final transcript with your date of graduation.

However -- if you're reading this post and you have NOT been admitted yet -- then yes, you might as well ask for a mid-year report to be sent to us once grades are posted after mid-terms.

Chris

interesting...
that means I don't have to work hard in high school anymore and I can just fail all my classes since I have all the credit for graduation...
just saying...not like I would do such a thing...

Still need to get good scores on AP classes, if you want the credits, and good grades never hurt when looking for scholarships.

Sometimes schools will need mid-year grades to see if you are accepted/declined, because you are on the border of it. No, you have to have good grades until the end, Colleges can still decline you if you mess up badly.

And yes, we do reserve the right to rescind your admission if you bomb your senior year.

Chris

what is . . ."bomb"??
Failing? Or just dropping
Because I am dropping but not failing.

also does SBU look at mid year grades? What Chris said sounds a little like they will look at applicants mid-year grades on there own. Or do we have to send them ourselves?

sorry I just dont want to mess anything up. I got accepted and I dont want to miss anything that might get my acceptance changed.

so can someone answer these questions for me:

1) Does SBU require me to send my mid-year senior transcript if I am already accepted.

2) Should students only send mid-year grade reports if they have not already been accepted, and would like to give SBU a better idea of why they should be accepted if they have made progress in their senior year.

3) I have to go to my guidance counselor at the end of the year and send the final transcript to SBU, right? or do I bring it to the orientation, or when I meet with my advisor.

and finally about the "bombing" question. Is bombing failing, or is it just doing worse then usual?

thanks

1) No.
2) Yes.
3) Either.

I'll say this about senior year. Yes, once you're admitted, you can relax a bit, because your senior grades are not as important. But please don't just let go completely. If you turn your brain off now -- or even in April or May -- then it's hard to get it going again come September. Run hard through the finish line and be conscientious about your studies.

Chris

Quick question to chris.
Do mid year reports include mid-terms?
Please let me know.

Thanks

From his previous post it says “once grades are posted after mid-terms” so mid-year report should include midterm grades

Chanoob - Yes, they should.

Chris

chris, i am already admitted to sbu, but my school sends out mid term reports anyway but…

there was a grade mistake on my report which i am in the process of getting fixed. how should i go about this in terms of either sending my new report in or informing stony brook that it should not be reviewed as of right now?

No, don’t worry about it. Once you’ve been offered admission, we probably won’t have any reason to look at your file again until we receive your final transcript over the summer.

Chris

little off topic but:

are the final transcripts always the ones that are used for admission statistics? For example, the average GPA of the engineering college etc.

Typically, yes.
