Are mid year grades required?

I emailed admissions and they told me to send a mid-year report

thanks... do you have any idea of how great a weight they have on applications?

So, do if I've already submitted the common app mid-year report, do I still need to mail in my updated transcript?

The mid-year report actually directs the secondary school counselor to "attach applicant's official transcript." However, our school does not do that: the student has to request that the transcript be sent. In other words, yes, you need an updated transcript.

is there a deadline?

Most schools say something like "as soon as they are available....." (i.e., after mid-year grades are posted).

I think most schools (Ivies, UVa, Duke, etc.) want the mid-year by Feb. 15 or as close to that as possible. Our school district sends them automatically but had to delay that by a couple of days to recalculate grades, but they sent a blast email contacting all the colleges about that. Does your district automatically send them out? If not, go to the counselor's office ASAP.
