mid year report

I'm in the same situation as solsek. The transcript I've already sent to Hopkins has my 1st trimester senior grades. However, the transcript w/ 2nd trimester grades would probably be postmarked by the 2nd or 3rd week of March, so I'm guessing that's too late. Should I send the md yr report at the mid Feb deadline or wait till 2nd trimester grades are available? The guidance office says it doesn't matter to them.

aaawww ... hell

As I said before, trimester grades should be sent when they become available. Use the mid-year report to have your school send first trimester grades. Then send the updated second trimester grades as well, when they become available. If they will be available in late February or early March, it is recommended your school also fax them: 410-516-6025.

Do note this: if a counselor is reviewing a file where senior year grades are important and they are not in the file, we will get them -- even if that means calling the school ourselves.

Thanks, I will make SURE they make it in time for admissions time. I hope my 4.0 UW/ 5.0 W , 5 AP class courseload will show how I have changed as a student..lol (Oh I have ! )

Do adcoms look at an UW or Weighted trend? ( I have a Weighted upward trend, but Unweighted, it has remained the same)

The Johns Hopkins Admissions committee looks at both unweighted and weighted grade trends. We do not ignore anything included with a student's high school transcript.

How important is my mid-year report if I have already been accepted to my college of choice under ED?

I am not performing well in my first semester Senior year because I have never taken any AP classes before and I have three this year. I think I will get mediocre grades from 80 to 90. Will my poor performance in the first semester senior year revoke my acceptance to my ED college...

Based on the way you phrased your question, it seems that Johns Hopkins University is not the school you were admitted to Early Decision. If that is true, then I really can't help you ... every school has different policies, therefore you really should contact the school you were admitted to as an ED student to ask this question. Don't rely on an answer you get on College Confidential ... contact the school directly for an accurate and official answer.

If you are asking specifically about Johns Hopkins' policy on mid-year reports for admitted ED students, we do not require them nor review them. We concern ourselves only with a final transcript review for ED admits, and that is quite important. One's admission is contingent on the successful completion of high school, and a serious downturn in grades could lead to a student having their admission rescinded.

I am little bit worried about my mid year report. Do colleges look at semester exams also? Because if they don't I am ok, but if they do they should probably know that the semester exam week was the same week on were both UNC Chapel Hill and Wake Forest admitted me.
During that week I could not concentrate but on COLLEGES!

If your semester exams are listed on your transcript we look at them. College admissions counselors review everything we can see.

I just looked up Carolina's mid year report and they only ask for the Letter Grade and Numerical Grade.
And Wake Forest ask mainly for both of my GPA's and class rank.
I am worried because a have a 92 or higher in all my Honor's and AP's classes, but I have a "D" on an Elective (that I hate).
Do you think I will be fine??

As I said a few post above, I can only answer questions about Johns Hopkins policies. I can not help you with questions about other university policies, because it is different for every school. I can not assist you, and you really should contact the schools you have applied to directly.

Ok sorry I'll do that

Dear AdmissionsDaniel,
First of all, thanks for all the updates on twitter for ED applicants before release of results....they were a great insight into the admissions process. I was an international ED applicant to Johns Hopkins However unfortunately :( I was deferred. I am an IB diploma student from India and want to know whether you consider predicted IB grades for the mid-year report since these are based on our performance in Grade 12 also. Our school sends these grades as the mid-year report for other applicants too since our examination(IB mocks) in our school is in the period feb-march and these results will be available to you only in late march when you will start the release of results. I had already sent my IB predicted grades along with other material for my ED app. So Will I need to send a separate mid-year report?

hello AdmissionDaniel,

JHU accepted ED a student from my HS with very mediocre gpa and grades! and everybody was very surprised by his acceptance to a "prestigious" university!( i know the student well because we go to a very small hs, and we all know the value of each of us.. ) how this can happen? i know his Dad is a surgeon and they have money, but do you know if this was the reason? is everything corrupted?? ..i know i am very naive!

All deferred ED applicants MUST have their school submit a mid-year report along with an updated senior year transcript. Even if the transcript will not reveal new information, the mid-year report is required. And yes, we will review predicted IB grades for any applicant who has their school submit them. Remember the information must be submitted by your school for the information to be considered official.

There are numerous reasons behind why we admit someone to Johns Hopkins. You and your classmates did not evaluate this student's application so therefore you are in no place to judge why the student was admitted. Our review process is quite holistic and we take into account the entire application, not just a student's GPA. And I would really question the term "mediocre." I will not go into a discussion why we admit the students we admit, but I can definitely say we have never admitted a student because one of their parents might be wealthy.

A strong piece of advice ... don't worry about the admission of your peers -- only concern yourself with your own application.

Admission Daniel,

I have a question regarding the midyear report: What is sent to the JHU when high schools send the midyear report? Like does the midyear report include all the grade earned first quarter, second quarter, midterm, and final semester grade or do they only include only the semester grade (assuming that the HS has a quarter grade system). I'm asking because I have a upward trend from first quarter to second. A to A+ in Calculus. Thanks ahead of time.

AdmissionDaniel: i'm concern about my peers because this process is also a competition!! If JHU decides to take 4 students at my HS,the kid with"mediocre " grades jeopardizes my chances!!!

LaVieEnChocolat: I'll take a crack at this for Daniel. This is truly one of the great myths of the college application process! Each applicant is looked at as an individual. I know of no top school which has a "quota" for a given school. A couple of years ago 6 students from my kids graduating class of less than 100 were accepted to Middlebury (4 went). You "competing" with the entire application pool.

so, when would the mid year report actually affect if an applicant is admitted? Does it only hold real bearing if an applicant has a significant change in performance (whether that be good or bad)? or, for example, would a first B coming in the first semester of senior year for an otherwise straight A student be enough to make JHU not accept an applicant?
