What is sent to the JHU when high schools send the midyear report?
It all depends on what your school provides. Every school is different. You should ask your guidance counselor what is included on the mid-year report they complete and the updated transcript they send. The Admissions team will review everything that is provided.

when would the mid year report actually affect if an applicant is admitted?
The mid-year report and senior grades matter in the review of EVERY APPLICATION. This report is the most updated record of a student's academic performance and therefore it is weighted quite highly as we review and finalize admissions decisions.

I'm sorry if these midyear report questions are getting a bit annoying, but this has really been bothering me. I found out the other day that I will getting a C (my first C ever) in an AP class. My rank won't drop because our school calculates rank at the end of the year only, but I'm not sure what my cumulative GPA will be. Sometimes the school transcript only calculates a cumulative GPA at the end of the year, just like the rank, so it might be the same (not sure). Anyway, how badly will this C hinder my application? I have decent SATs (nothing remarkable, but in JHU's range) and really good ECs/essays if I do say so myself. Will this hurt a lot?

100pc... does your school weight? It might help if it does, since it's an elective.

On the topic of hating an elective---I've stopped taking electives unless they're taught by AP/honors teachers. I forget how slow regular classes move sometimes. The last one I took was creative writing, which I was genuinely looking forward to... until five 86-minute classes in, all I was still learning about basic composition of metaphors (shoot me.) and the teacher's personal history, which was neither interesting nor useful.

Annnd... I'm done ranting now.

Sigh.. this midyear report may not go so well. The physics midterm and I had a little tiff... and I'm pretty sure it won.

Anyway, how badly will this C hinder my application?

You all keep asking how one grade on a mid-year report will impact your overall application review, and I keep either ignoring the question or responding there is no way to tell. And that is what I am going to say again -- there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that I can answer such a question. One grade will never be the sole reason why we do not admit a student, choose to wait list a student, or admit a student. EVERYTHING MATTERS and everything is evaluated.

Your mid-year report is very important and your senior grades carry a lot of weight, but they are not reviewed as the sole and most important part of your application. They will matter in the review but there is absolutely no way to say what impact the mid-year report will have on the overall review with out reviewing one's entire application.

So please stop asking these questions ... spend your time getting good grades.

So the midyear report is only a counselor report? Or do we need to send an updated transcript as well?
The mid-year report is a form that needs to be completed by your high school guidance counselor and sent by them (by Feb. 15) along with an updated transcript. Both the mid-year report and new transcript are required, and these forms are not redundant ... one is an update by the counselor and the other is the record of your grades.

Hello! I am a senior in Minnesota who attends the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities as a PSEO student. I am currently enrolled in a Calculus I class, and am seem to be doing quite poorly… compared to the AP Calc class at my high school, the class at the university is significantly more difficult (Partly because of the foreign professors/TA’s who has very heavy accent in English…) I wanted to do PSEO in order to further challenge myself, but now this midyear report is going to bring down my college GPA to around 3.5…
My high school GPA is a solid 3.93 with many AP courses.

I am applying to the following schools:

University of California, Los Angeles
Northwestern University
University of Chicago
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Georgetown University
Washington University in St. Louis
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
University of Southern California

Do you think my bad grades this semester would affect my admission chance significantly…?

what happens if u are taking a required course and everything else is rigourous and on eo your periods is TA 1st semester /Health 2nd semester but everything else is rigorous?

I was deferred ED this fall, and I wanted to send an additional essay stating why I wish to attend JHU and also an updated resume. How should I send this? Should I give it to my guidance counselor to send along with mid-year grades or should I directly mail it to the undergraduate admission office?

Also, do you recommend any other supplementals to send in order to help my chances?

will i get a rejection letter from any or all of my accepted schools if in my midyear report I got a really bad grade in an impossible AP class (AP Statistics) where almost everyone in my class is failing

How bad is your grade?
Btw AP Stats is considered a fairly easy AP, it’s not an impossible AP class. If you’re struggling, I recommend you use Barrons’ AP Stats. It helped me so much to ace 5 easily.

In my Mid Year report, my school sent in all of my SAT II, SAT I, AP, and PSAT scores. I have taken a lot of SAT IIs, and of course, was not comfortable about showing some of the scores. Most schools only required two or three anyway - and so I sent the required number to the specific schools. However, will the “bad” SAT II score reported in my transcript (that I did not send in and so therefore do not want to be considered), significantly affect the admissions decision?

Okay so I am currently having a midyear report crisis.

Throughout high school, I’ve been getting all A’s and one A- per year. However, second semester senior year I got mostly A-'s and one B+. I am taking all AP and honors classes, and I’m taking one more AP than I did last year. Since I only averaged a decrease of one letter grade, would this be perceived as a downward trend on my midyear report and diminish my chances of acceptance? Or is it within the range of acceptable grade fluctuation? I am really stressing out about this…

To Admissions Daniel
I had a good transcript starting from grade 9-11 with a GPA above 90. During my senior year my cumulative average decreased to around 88 and I have a single C in Maths although I plan to study a subject required to get a premed. Will this bring changes in my chances to get accepted to JHU,Duke,Upenn??? Will a letter from counselor remedy this problems??? Are there any other solutions???//
