Hi!

Do elite colleges view Middle Easterns as they do white and caucasian? I know that when you check the box, it's the same thing, but if you were to explain that you were Middle Eastern, would they view you as diverse?

Does being Middle Eastern at all increase your chances of admission? Obviously not as much as, perhaps, Hispanic, but does it help at all?

Middle eastern applicants are to select White or omit the category. There is no evidence that I have seen that indicates that they are under-represented, nor have I seen evidence that they are benefited via Affirmative Action.

It doesn’t help you in college admissions. Them’s the breaks. Sorry. When I first heard about the boost given to non-white non-Asian races, I was also like…yay! I’m enough Middle Eastern to count! But then that hope came crashing down…oh well. If you feel like writing an essay about your heritage, that might be more interesting than some other topics, which would in fact help you.
