Here's the deal, and this just hit me in my blind side so hard I'm about to cry. When I was in middle school, I was in Spanish 1 and Algebra 1 in 7th grade. The courses were not accredited, so I didn't get any credits. One semester into 8th grade my family moves to a different part of town. Only one new school was found that had Spanish 2 and Geo for 8th graders. NO HONORS WAS OFFERED! In both classes, I got 2 A's for the semester and those middle school courses were, strangely, high school accredited. Initially, at the beginning of my Freshman year after I tested into both Alg 2 H and Spanish 3 H, I emailed my GC about getting those credits from middle school. I switched districts over the summer, so she said no. Today, I look into my course history and I see those two courses entered with 0.5 credits each, which I had no idea were going to be there. A's in both, but both are non honors. This is when it all comes crashing down, I have a 4.0, but weighted, this will inevitably bring it down. The valedictorian race is honestly only between my two best friends and I, we all have one non honors class this year, but now that I discover this, the fact that both are not weighted will bring down my GPA.

So, my question is, will these two courses bring my GPA down, and therefore my class rank?
Also, can I remove these courses from my transcript?
Third, is my hypothesis right or am I freaking out for no reason?

middle school classes don’t even count for gpa…
plus if it did you’re freaking out over nothing. lol calm down. chances are there’ll be plenty of opportunities to make up for it

They wouldn’t do anything to your GPA . I took Alg. W/Stats in 7th grade, and I took Spanish 1 and Geometry in 8th. I got credit for those, but it showed as 0.0 GPA or whatever, so stop freaking out lol.

You need to check with your district policy. In my children’s school district courses such as foreign language and math (Algebra I & II, Geometry; high school credit classes) do indeed count for high school GPA and are weighted. For my S, these classes factored into cumulative GPA and impacted his rank. For my D, these classes may/may not impact rank as now rank is determined by only the grades on core courses.

I mean’t to add that these were courses taken in 7th and 8th grade but included in high school GPA.

NOOO!!! Some one else has the EXACT same problem I have! I thought I was a special cause and no one else would have to deal with the unexplainable feeling of having middle school classes count against you in high school, potentially ruining four years of hard work in terms of class rank. Look for a thread I started a couple days ago. I have the same problem. As many replied in my thread, class rank isn’t too significant, but it does feel bad to have something snatched away from you that you could’ve have (semi)-easily attained.
Try to get them off your transcript. Talk to your GC and/or gifted services coordinator (often times, they know more). If your school is anything like regular high schools, it’ll bring down your WGPA. If you can’t get it off your transcript, you’ll have to deal with it (and trust me I can relate - it sucks…).

hahaha yeah man, most of the kids of my old middle school have this issue since it was ranked #2 in our state and they are intelligent as well. I can’t mitigate my tension and nobody is reprehensible in the context, all I can do is hope that my GC will annul the old class. I don’t care about the credits haha since class rank is justifiably more important and I’m aiming for the IB Diploma so early graduation is not a option at all.

GL to you for getting it fixed. Idk if my GC will be able to do something in my highly bureaucratic school district. (Interestingly, my middle school is/was also in the top few in the state.)
(I’ve gotten a lot of advice that I’m taking this predicament too seriously and I’d pass on the same advice to you. In the end, college will probably weight the acceleration as more valuable than the class rank. For me, it means taking BC in 10th. Idk how it’ll work out for you though.)
