I'm worried because my hs calculates cumulative wgpa with middle school courses (spanish and algebra). My cumulative wgpa is .1 higher without those two classes and I was wondering if colleges would care.

Most colleges don't care what happens in Freshman or pre-freshman year as long as you improve or in the case you did good Freshman year keep doing what you're doing. But that doesn't mean slack off Freshman year cause it could come back and haunt you by way of class rank.

Ok, thanks. Only problem with my freshman year grades is that I only took 3 honors courses. GPA/Grades took a little dip 1st semester freshman and sophomore years. I was just lazy 1st semester freshman year and football made me really tired sophomore year, but they're looking pretty good right now (junior year). My school doesn't rank, but there are a ton of smart people in my school...

i had straight a's in sixth grade, but it went downhill in 7th and 8th, but i got them up in high school

dude. same here!
my grades just dropped off a cliff then a tank fell on it in middle school.

Straight As in sixth and seventh grade. Fell of a little bit in eighth grade. Did a little bit better my freshman year and have been doing pretty darn good since sophomore year.

I am not going to lie, if I could go back in time, I would slack off so bad in middle school and save my energy for high school.

People who tell you that middle school counts are liars. Just get a D and pass in middle school and save your energy and time for high school.

The only basics you need from middle school are math and english.

yea. just test out of stuff like crazy/prep for high school.
ignore your homework.

One thing I noticed is that kids who did well in middle school flopped and started high school on the wrong foot.

Kids who slacked during middle school are the ones accepted into Ivy Leagues now.

woot. im one of those kids.

i did so good in middle school.... i was the smartest person there. thx for the courage chris.. i want to go to harvard

Ivybound11,

:) I forgot to tell you there are exceptions. I think you're one. :)

I'm one of the kids who was easily the smartest in the grade in middle school. I got an A+ in everything, and I know not one person, even the people who are going to better schools than me now, that did better than me then. All the teachers talked about me being so smart and going great places after high school, but then something happened. I decided to slack off the entire high school and now I'm even outside the top 10%. People still remember the times when I was the best, and it is pretty damn disheartening to look back at the times when I was on track for HYPS.

Man, I didn't even care about grades in middle school. At. All. Then in 9th grade, I was almost the same, but I cared enough that I managed to actually do my homework. I guess the whole college thing never hit me until junior year, when it was too late to improve class rankings. I guess it would have helped if I found CC in middle school.

i worked so hard in junior high, i don't know why...
looking back, i regret wasting my time trying to impress teachers with all sorts of unnecessary crap.
on a more optimistic note, my school is divided into "primary" and "secondary" school, which means junior high/ high school are kind of meshed together, with the same teachers and stuff. so, at least i've built some "good relations" and given "oh she works so hard" impressions to teachers

LMAO. Middle school. Elementary and Middle school, those two times I don't recall studying once. Slept daily, did nothing but play games, sports, hang around, chill the entire time. Never did ANYTHING.

Same thing for 9th grade.

Now I'm at 10th, accelerating a bit. It's a wonder why my level of intelligence isn't bottom-low as it should be, but instead mediocre, as I've had minimal, like literally ultra-minimal level of studying in my life.

straight As 1st-8th grade. too bad i didnt keep it up...i still need to figure out how to study.

My HS started counting middle school grades the year after I left middle school, lucky for me, cause I didnt do oh so well in geometry :P
