I currently have a 3.9 average for freshman and sophomore year but i switched into alg 1 half way through 7th grade and got a c+ and I got a c in 8th grade geometry. These classes are factored into my gpa and are bringing it down. How much will these scores affect my chances of getting into college?
Generally only HS grades count.
@TooOld4School the problem is that although I took these classes in middle school, they are “high school courses” and are factored into my hs gpa.
That does not matter as far as colleges are concerned. Your HS may include them in its internal calculation, but colleges generally do not. Most colleges will recompute the GPA due to different weighting scales used by high schools. In addition, grades in later years of HS are counted more heavily that early ones - for example, UC schools only count sophomore and junior grades for admission purposes. Concentrate on getting good grades in the future since there is nothing you can do about the past.
That’s good news. Thanks for your help! @TooOld4School
Yes in fact some schools even disregard freshman year grades. Princeton comes to mind. There are many others.
