Recently I received what will be my official high-school transcript that I will be sending out to colleges and something confused me. I saw that there were 5 middle school classes on my high-school transcript that I had taken and received what for me are average grades (mostly A minuses and one B+) in. I’m aware that because these are high-school credit courses they will be on my high-school transcript but what I mean to ask is are these grades even important? Some high-schools I know for a fact don’t report any of these grades and if they do list pass or fail for each course. It would seem unfair if colleges accessed and recalculated my middle-school grades into a cumulative high-school G.P.A. and didn’t for others because their schools either didn’t provide middle school grades or just wrote down pass or fail for the course. I’ve always heard that colleges only care about grades and test scores from years 9-12. Isn’t this the case? Will colleges actually compute my middle-school grades into a recalculated G.P.A. despite others schools not reporting these grades? That seems unfair since students would be at the mercy of their college counselors transcript policy. Thank you so much for your time and I truly appreciate all responses!
The same thing happened to me in high school. I did everything I could think of to get my middle school grades off of my transcript but to no avail. Whether your gpa gets recalculated or not is at the discretion of the college, but even if these grades stay on your transcript, colleges won’t pay any attention to them. They care more about your individual courses (from grades 9-12) and the grades you got in them than your overall gpa. If they only looked at cumulative averages, applicants whose high schools factor non-academic subjects like PE into their gpa’s would have inaccurate averages.
