From the way the Common App and Middlebury website both look, the application supplement is fairly straightforward - there is no essay this year. HOWEVER, I talked to someone who applied last year and then I searched around a bit. In years past, Middlebury has required a supplemental essay and another graded analytical essay submitted by regular mail (at least that's the impression I've gotten by briefly searching).

As far as I can tell, Middlebury does not require those essays this year. Is that the case or am I not looking well enough?

That’s the case. Apparently there have been some cuts in the staffing of the admission’s office and apparently those extra items may not have changed minds (i.e, not sure they made much of an impact on decisions). While I think less required in terms of “extras” will drive up applications (almost 7K last year) and make the time devoted to reading greater.

So… just make sure you get the preapp in by that earlier deadline and the common app in and you’re good to go!

That’s the point. Every extra $65.00 helps. ;)

Application numbers were down too, so I think that may be related. Just push a button, send the $$$ and you, too, can apply to Midd.

when I heard that middlebury did not require a supp essay this year, I immediately wanted to apply to middlebury…
though it seems out of my reach… but it doesn’t take much to apply to 1 more school… only $65…
and i bet there are a lot of people like me. the no of applicants will skyrocket this year…

whoa, does this mean, if you didnt pay the fee on dec. 15, you can’t apply? :O.

I’m confused about the whole pre-app thing. The common app links me to a pdf from Middlebury which is basically the same form that I filled out on the common app. What was due by the 15th?

The supplement was due by the 15th, but I submitted on the 17th and they took it.

The payment was also due on the 15th, which I didn’t realize. Anyway, today they sent me an email reminding me that I hadn’t paid. I paid today and they accepted it, no problem.

I didn’t decide to apply to middlebury until a few weeks ago. I submitted the supplement on the common app yesterday (that’s what we’re talking about right? no supp essay?). Should I not even bother with the payment since I’ve already messed up with the deadlines?

^Similar problem. I sent the admissions office an e-mail and this is what they said:
Please go into the common application as soon as possible and submit the supplement and payment online. This will not effect the evaluation of your application. Thanks

This was yesterday, so you should still be ok, but you might want to e-mail them yourself to make sure. Good Luck

Thanks that’s really comforting. Good luck
