Ooh I’m a fan of that plan🙂
@Solstice155
It is worth trying… Though I have heard they usually only look at exceptional changes like loss of job or natural disaster. But we can ask. However when it’s so far off what we can afford it might be too big of an ask . But never hurts to try.
Son Denied. We will add Middlebury to the rejection pile. He’s in at Colby and Hamilton and at several other great schools. Plus a couple of WL at a few other top 10 LACs. Batting average seemed better with the colleges that announced last week.
Congratulations to the admits, and for WL candidates- hang in there!
@itsawrap
I am so sorry. The good news is that so many of these schools are great and the kids will make the most of them and do well at any of them. So whether one didn’t get in our can’t afford it if they did, we can always remind kids that they will still excel. The schools don’t determine their future-- they do. Graduate school acceptance lists from many elite schools show their students are equally from even no name state or private schools.
Waitlisted.
A pretty crazy regular decision roller coaster. I was waitlisted at Colby. Both Middlebury and Colby have no supplemental essays which I would consider a negative impact on my application because I feel like my essays are a super strong part of my application that allow me to differentiate myself from other applicants.
But I was also flat out rejected from both Pitzer and Claremont McKenna which have tons of supplemental essays and I was really proud of my applications there.
I have two more decisions from Dartmouth and Amherst that I am excited to hear from but I honestly have no clue what to expect considering how the regular decision round is going.
Worst case scenario I will likely attend Colorado College, Davidson, or Whitman
Accepted!
Was accepted to Colby, Bates and Midd, waitlisted at Wellesley and Grinnell. I’m waiting for the last result from Wesleyan in a few hours, but I’ll most probably go to Middlebury next fall.
Can you share your stats who got in please
I totally hear you on that point. We made sure there were schools on her list that give merit aid as well and where D21 was likely to get aid given she was above their average accepted stats. So many great schools give a lot of merit aid which, I think, allows more middle/upper middle class kids to attend. In those that don’t, yes agree it’s either the poorest or richest who can attend or those willing to take a second on their home and/or go into debt to afford the school. Definitely appeal your financial aid packages with details of your particular financial circumstances in a personal letter to the financial aid folks, which usually don’t come through in the FAFSA. Good luck!
@Scout2728 I love Colorado College!!! They do great team building with the students
@Sunderkarma
D21 stats are like 4.6 weighted, 14 AP classes, 5 college classes, no scores, rank 2 Volunteer 2 hrs
Works 15 hrs,week, shift leader
Is in band, orchestra, speech, theatre
Accepted includes: MB, Univ Michigan, Case Western RU, RIT, Bucknell, Wake Forest, Swarthmore…waiting on Wesleyan, Penn
I got in! 35 ACT, 3.95 uw, hardest classes available, solid but not crazy ECs
we were in same boat with S19. you may wish to wait closer to may 1 to deny if still interested. we took the better offer from one LAC to Bowdoin and they brought the package down by a great deal. Other colleges began offering “grants” we had not yet heard of ( i.e. Georgetown for one) the closer it got to May 1 presumably to manage their yield and still get the kids they wanted.
Every single college states that I believe:)
Of course !
My son was accepted, but the financial aid was not nearly as generous as Bates, Brandeis, Skidmore or Northeastern. So he likely won’t attend. Nice to know he was accepted though. Congrats to those accepted.

FA from Midd is great (EFC 3K) and is equally generous as Bates, U of Richmond and Trinity, Colby is giving me slightly less
