From western NY. I was accepted for September admission with only a 1910 SAT and 30 ACT, while being a white male. I think I had a great alumni interview referral from my dude haha. Do four sports a year, low income applicant (which I thought might be my downfall), started a charity that I run on my own and raised $2000 in a year. Valedictorian, 97 average. Won’t be playing varsity sport, I don’t play the oboe that Middlebury cherishes so much (don’t play any instrument). Not really a president of anything in school (Academic All- stars doesn’t count). So if I got in, there is a lot of hope for a lot of other kids haha. However, I do think I deserved to get in, even though I don’t jam out on the oboe and didn’t have a nasty test score. Got into Vassar as well, along with Northwestern, which was also a surprise for me. I am still waiting to hear from four ivies, emory, trinity (which I don’t want to go to now haha), and NYU. I don’t know which one is better for what I want (film and a future in business) but I figure Northwestern would be the best choice Does anybody have any idea?

LaMariposaAzul, you’ve helped me on one or two threads and i’ve seen you help others on CC. you just seem like such a wonderful person. you will go somewhere great and i’m sure you will be great. you deserve it.

djss318, Midd offers neither business classes nor film so I would suspect it ought not be high on your list.

djss318 -

Of course, Northwestern may be a better fit for you than Middlebury if there are certain programs which Northwestern offers and Middlebury doesn’t.

I will tell you this. My wife and son (Middlebury Class of 2012) looked at Northwestern last year and were frankly not impressed. Unlike at Middlebury, the folks at Northwestern made no effort to accommodate them and the Northwestern facilities were nothing compared to Middlebury’s. My wife and son didn’t get the personal touch at Northwestern which befits paying $50,000 per year in tuition. My son could have gone to our local state university (a good one) and gotten better ambience at a third the price.

This is not intended to denigrate Northwestern which obviously has a good reputation; but in our son’s case choosing between Northwestern and Middlebury was a no-brainer.

Laxtaxi and djss318, the fact that Midd does not offer film classes is going to come as a surprise to the people in the Film & Media Culture department. I assure you, Midd does, in fact, offer Film classes. While Midd does not offer specific business classes, it has a very strong economics department.

I wanted to let everyone who was rejected or waitlisted know that I just learned that none of the four applicants I interviewed as an alumni interviewer were admitted. Each one of them was certainly qualified and I was shocked that at least two of them were not admitted. Apparently, even with a slight decline in applicants the quality of Midd applicants keeps going up and admission just gets more competitive.

dj - I think you’d make a great addition to the Middlebury campus. I sort of think you’d just be swallowed up at Northwestern and become just another guy in baggy jeans in the crowd (no offense.) No chance of that happening at Midd.

And, don’t worry about majors. You’ll find something.

Thanks, rachmt! I put my name on the Midd waitlist, just to see what happens! For my other schools, the most exciting one I got into was Wellesley, so hopefully I’ll end up there!

Congratulations again to everyone who was accepted, I’m sure you completely deserve it and will have a wonderful time wherever you go! :)
