middlebury is famous for their arts and languages but not really for their sciences. and as a potentially future scientist i need to know whether middlebury will suit me better than colby or bates. so far all i've heard is that middlebury beats colby and bates with their reputation. i was just wondering what each college best offers compared with each other. thanks!!

Middlebury's science programs are excellent. In the late 1990s, Middlebury made a committment to increase the strength of the physical sciences programs. Bicentennial Hall is proof of this commitment. The labs and equipment are top-notch, and the number of students majoring in the sciences is on the rise. In terms of environmental sciences, Middlebury has one of the nation’s preeminent programs. Contant current students or professors for more information. Did you attend the open houses?

no i didn't have time to even visit the campus! so all i have to go on is other people's word of mouth, their website and forums like this. so would you say that their science programs are not as strong as their humanities courses or that they are just amazing at humanities and that their sciences are still good?

I go to Middlebury, and the sciences here are really first rate - students who are willing to make the commitment to the hard work which they require usually feel that the best profs in the school are in the sciences. If you walk up and down the halls of Bicentennial Hall (the science center), you will see the walls pretty much covered with posters and papers from conferences where profs and students presented their work together. Grad Schools and Med Schools also really like Midd science grads, even those with some bad grades.

What's your opinion of the Economics Department at Middlebury? My son just enrolled and he's interested in that in conjunction with an International Studies/Politics focus.
