Midshipman Rates

A document dated August 2005 listing midshipman rates according to class is available at: http://www.usna.org/

For each class it specifically lists responsibilities, expected behavior, privileges and restrictions. It will give you a good overview of what your midshipman can/cannot do on and off the Yard. I printed a copy and occasionally review it when I have a question about my mid’s rates. For example, I was surprised that 3/C are required to attend SMT (Saturday Morning Training) every Saturday. One caveat, this list of rates may be updated annually.

Well said regarding the updates.

My mid is in the class of '08. Last fall was the first time the SMT was implemented as well as the rotating duty every third weekend. He said many mids were less than thrilled (my words) with the changes. We will see what this year brings.

I assume that since Vice Admiral Grooms was promoted to another position, he will be replaced by a new commandant of midshipmen by the Reform of the Brigade. That event and the courts martial should bring some changes. Any predictions?

Yep. I predict that Chick and Ruth's will have to rename their sundae #502 :)
