NC State is relatively large, and the campus is, um, not exactly the most attractive (unless you really, really like brick). Most of the students are in-state (~90% ?), but all the NC State students I know are very friendly, so I don't think being OOS is a bad thing at all. Dorms are pretty nice, and some on the quad have free laundry services. Be prepared to walk a lot because the campus is big. The student body is diverse, and students tend to know what they want to do in life (in large part because you have to apply to a specific college). Scholarships are competitive, and the Park Scholarship is extremely similar in selectivity to the Morehead at UNC Chapel Hill. There's two honors programs available (Honors and Scholars), and both of them are great for students who want a challenge. Sports have quite a following (especially basketball), and school spirit is definitely present in copious amounts. I know many kids who were rejected at Chapel Hill and went to State planning to transfer to UNC...they ended up staying at NCSU and absolutely loved it. I'm not sure about business, but NC State has a pretty good program in psychology.

PackMom has a son at NC State, so you could PM her for info.
