Good luck to you both on your finals & other classes! @NASA2014 @SuperGeo5999
Thank you @TransferStalker and @3scoutsmom. Ended up passing my final with an 80 and was curved to a 87. Final grade: B-
Good Job @NASA2014 keep up the good work!
I’ll tell final grades when they are posted.
I know for sure that I’ll have an A in my Public Speaking class. Hopefully i’ll have atleast a B in my other classes.
@3scoutsmom if I made a high B (88 or 89) in Intermediate algebra this semster, is that good? Are Bs in math acceptable as a STEM major? Hopefully I do fine in college algebra and trig in the spring so I’m prepared for calculus whether I take brief calculus or the regular calculus depending on which major I choose.
When did someone tell you that getting a B in intermediate algebra is bad? Look at me, I’m going to take Calculus 3 next semester. Relax about the grade you got in intermediate. If your algebra has improved then is fine. Did poorly in the algebra, but got a good grade. Now that’s a problem. If you take calculus even if its brief calculus. Algebra will always be there.
Here are my math courses so far with grades.
Intermediate algebra: B
College Algebra & trigonometry: B
Precalculus: C
Calculus 1: D first time, B second time
Calculus 2: B-
to some people a B is a bad grade. Some people pick on me by saying that the B stands for Bad lol. I thought I would ask @3scoutsmom that question because her daughter is a meteorology major. A B means in reality that you got most of the math right but means there were a few points I lost for not getting the math right. People believe that you have to be a math genius to be a STEM major with no mathematical errors but we’re all human so we all are gonna make mistakes.
My algebra has greatly improved. My only concern is forgetting what I learned over break which would make college Algerba and Trig difficult.
A C is known to mean average but I’ve heard the saying that due to grade inflation changing that a B is what is average and that a C is of course bellow average.
Those people who say “B” is a bad grade never truly fail a class before. They have never accepted failure before. Don’t worry about what other people say. I have failed multiple times, and to get a B or higher is something I’m happy about. If you think B is a bad grade, then retake Intermediate algebra again until you reach an A. I’m getting a minor in math and plan to take all the math requirements a meteorology would need.
Calculus 3
Linear Algbera
Ordinary differential equations
Partial Differential equations
Just remember, I got a 45 on my second exam. On the final, I ended up achieving an 87. Had a C+ going to the final. This was calculus 2
There’s no need to retake Intermediate algebra because FA won’t pay for a course 3 times. I just need to practice what I learned over break and work hard to get atleast a B in my next math courses.
@NASA2014 are you doing a math minor in case you wanna major in meteorology in graduate school or are you just doing that because you like math? Are you doing a chemistry minor too in case you decide to do pharmacy school or something else related to chemistry in grad school?
The three things i’m concerned about are acceptance as a transfer student to a four year university, acceptance to graduate school, and getting a good Job in my field after graduation. Will thess things accept me with B’s? These things can be competitive. I know I won’t get accepted to Harvard but hopefully will get accepted to a good enough transfer school, graduate school, and Job.
@SuperGeo5999 I was planning on switching my math minor then had a talk with my mom and said I should stick with the math minor. Since she knows me too well that I would probably like to study meteorology in graduate school. Having chemistry and math minor allows me to have more options to choose from when I apply to graduate school. Since I will be getting a bachelors in biology, i would have another option as well.
The reason why I have a chemistry minor is because I might do pharmaceutical science. I’m not sure, so that’s the reason why I have two minors just Incase I pick one of them. Although, I’m leading towards atmospheric chemistry so maybe they need some chemistry courses like physical chemistry.
@SuperGeo5999 Haven’t you heard the saying “C’s get degrees” ? For transferring they are going to be looking at your over all GPA. What school are you thinking of transferring to?
@3scoutsmom apparently, OP mindset is that he doesn’t believe in getting C, and B in STEM. Believes that those are bad grade according to him.
Another reason I felt bad about Bs and Cs is that some teachers only like students who get As. Should I be concerned if a teacher doesn’t like me because I’m not perfect? Another reason why people might say these are bad is if there goal is to get into ann Ivy League school but isn’t my goal.
@3scoutsmom I’m wanting to transfer to Purdue University. The majors I’m interested in there are Civil and Environmental Engineering, Applied meteorology and climatology, Wildlife, Geology, construction management, and Biology. There’s a GPA requirement for each major, they’re listed on there page, and I’ve heard my advisor say that having the minimum GPA doesn’t guarantee admission to my desired program but then again some programs aren’t capped so then just having the minimum does guarantee admission in some cases and some cases not. For example, AAE at Purdue requires a minimum 3.7 GPA but I hear that this is a a capped program because of the the number of students applying and most of them have 4.0 GPAs. Another example, I emailed the Environmental Engineering heads(there is Environmental & natural resources engineering and Environmental & Ecological Engineering) and they said They are not capped programs. Bellow is the link for the articulation agreements, the transfer admission requirements, a tool I’ve been using to make sure my coursework transfers for majors there is not a direct party for, and all majors.

I’m also open to Ball State, Valparaiso, IU, and Purdue branch campuses too. These schools do not have there GPA requirements for each individual major like Purdue does. I think somewhere between a 2.0-2.5 GPA is the minimum to get into these schools.
Construction management is new. When did you have an interested? What happened to just Meteorology, zoology and geology?
Well remember I asked a poster something about project management in my geology thread? When I said project management, I mean construction management. Project management can mean Business, IT, or Construction Management. I actually had an interest in this before I started becoming interested in Engineering but found it when civil engineers was listed as a similar occupation to construction managers on BLS.
You need to decide what you want to do. What if you can handle both math classes next semester? Does that mean you’ll do Civil first, then do Meteorology later?
What I meant was that if i do fine with both math courses in the spring then I’ll choose engineering or meteorology as a major. I know it seems crazy that I have so many interests but isn’t good that I have a plan to determine my strengths and what I wanna do to narrow it down? Over next summer, I’ll probably do visits to the departments that interest me at Purdue and talk to people in fields that interest me to also help determine what I wanna do. I’ll need to determine what I wanna do by fall 2018 since I’ll be done with my gen eds by then.
