Took college algebra 3 times, pass with C

I want to have a degree in the field of computer science. I have intern at varies companies and one happens to be a Microsoft. I need a B- to take requrement for programming 1 and 2 I already know how this works. The barrier is I need a higher level to take this classes order to get in the school. I dont know what to do. Everything requires math. Took 2 course at university gotten c’s and I even with to a community college still c. What do you suggest I do?

@John223 unfortunately it sounds like you’re probably going to need to take it again, but before you do, fully research the tutoring centers at each school and also look to see how accessible the instructors are outside of class. You’re going to want to build a solid foundation to be able to move on to Calc, linear algebra, or differential equations. It sounds like you may benefit from additional out-of-class individual instruction; most schools, universities or CCs offer tutoring centers. Sit down with them before you enroll and map out a plan for regular tutoring sessions.

Have you taken a college math placement test?

I had to take a pre-algebra remedial math class when I started college. The class was not for college credit, but helped with my math foundation for college algebra. It helped me build my “math” confidence. I went on to be successful in math after getting the foundation.

Talk to your advisor as soon as possible. At my D’s school you can’t retake a course more than three times.

Math is an area where everything you learn is based on what you already learned in the past. It sounds to me as if your basis in math is weak and needs shoring up.

I agree with @svlab112 that you probably need to take a placement test to find out what you do know. I also agree with @Tigerwife92 that you probably need tutoring. A good tutor can be very helpful in math.

I had to look up what “college math” is, since this is stuff that many of us took in high school. Unfortunately this is a major basis for a lot of what you are going to need to take in university. As such I think that this is something that you need to learn far better than would be reflected by your getting a C in the course.
