Might get rescinded?

I was accepted to UIUC's college of business as an accounting major in Feb. after being initially deferred in Dec. However, second semester of senior year came along and so did senioritis. I have A and Bs in 5 of my classes but the other 2 have got me worried. All seven of my classes are IBs/AP/Honors. However, there is one course I'm worried about which is AP econ in which I currently have a C in. There is a possibility that it may drop to a D and my Honors Physics may drop from a B- to a C. I don't know if I'm just being paranoid or not but will UIUC rescind me for these two bad grades? If it does help, I take 3 social science courses and the other two, AP psych and AP gov are both As. Would this help offset a potential D in AP Econ? Thanks.

I think even you drop from C to D in AP Econ and B- to C in Honors Physics, it’s still highly unlikely your admission will get rescinded…

However, I had a A- in Econ last semester and a B+ in honors physics last semester…

I would worry about the D, but otherwise it shouldn’t be too bad.

Personally I think, since your major is accounting, a C in AP econ will look bad… even worse than a D in Physics H. Well, I still don’t think held against you because of a C and a D. They know you’ve worked hard for 3.5 years and are tired now lol

I got in with a 3.6 uw 4.1 w gpa for engineering. Now I have 4B’s and 1C with AP Econ, AP Bio, AP Calc and Hon. Spanish. So now I have 2.8 uw, 3.6 w. Will I get rescinded?

Thanks!

dartox,

From what I’ve seen in other threads about rescinding acceptance, one and two Cs, or even a D wouldn’t make them change their decision. So I don’t think you’ll get rescinded. In addition, you’re not an economics major right? Getting Cs doesn’t mean anything really severe, chances are people getting a lot of Cs after entering university; university education is way harder than high school.

By the way, I saw a reply in CMU thread even said just don’t do something illegal then you’re fine.

ok thanks, that just relieved me of such much stress!

So my grade actually dropped even more but my teacher has been graceful and allowed me to change from AP econ to normal econ. Changing to normal econ would bring my grade back up extremely high but would this get my acceptance revoked just for changing from AP econ to normal econ?

We were just at admitted students day, and one person asked a similar question, and the answer was you virtually would have to flunk out to get your acceptance rescinded. Not that you should test it, but no, I cannot imagine you will get rescinded.

Ill most likely have to change from AP econ to normal econ. The normal economics class follows the exact same curriculum as the AP econ class except instead of taking the AP micro and macro exams, I write a research paper to boost up my already low grade. So is this trade off a good idea? I know that UIUC reqires that if you drop a class, it has to be replaced with another AP…but this situation is different since the cirruiculm is exactly the same with the only differnence being writing a research paper(which will boost my grade up by alot) or taking the AP exams. thanks for your input!

That’s a question that you should ask U of I Admissions directly.

Seems to me the safer thing to do is ride out your AP Econ class. So long as you pass it, from what we were told, you are fine. If you drop classes or change your schedule, that may be different. You got into U of I and I assume you have gotten good grades… Why is is you can’t just work hard and get the grade up to a C, or even a D for that matter.

I can only go by what we were told by U of I and common sense…they should not rescind your admission simply because you get one D. It seems the safer route is to ride it out. Besides, aren’t you just a few weeks away from being done?

I guess im just more worried because I’m a business major … Ill have to talk with my counselor about this but thanks for your time. Ill follow up soon.

Yep, smart to talk to your counselor and/or admissions.

so I talked with my counselor and he said that since I was a business major, I should just tough it out. Hopefully I end up with a C- or D+ in AP econ.

altough I have seen people on collegeconfidential being rescinded from UIUC for having 2 Ds.
