@IBviolamom Congrats to your daughter getting her second choice. That is awesome. So happy for her that she has a place she wants to study.
We are still waiting to hear. Based on what we have seen so far I am growing pessimistic about affording his top choice. There are so many other people like us out there that are learning that college has just gotten too expensive for the average family to afford. I honestly felt like having $35K a year would cover most schools. I got a quick education on this once the acceptances began coming in. The good thing is that he did get into his financial safety which of course was his last choice. That is most likely how it is going to play out. The good thing is he will have a college degree.
Thank you @collegefan101@NEPatsGirl and @MassDaD68 I agree with the statement about the outrageous cost of tuition at private colleges. We have only one child and generous grandparents who have donated to their grandchildrens’ (they only have two) college funds every year. The good news is that I have learned through this process that our kids can get an excellent education at so many places, and choosing the affordable choice is never a mistake. After my daughter got her first rejection I reminded her that what she does at college matters a lot more than which college she goes to. I myself graduated from the top high school in New York City from where a significant portion of my peers went onto the Ivy leagues, and I went to a SUNY; in fact, I only applied to SUNYs because of tuition costs. It has never made one bit of difference in my life… or maybe it did, because I met my husband there, so without that school my daughter wouldn’t even be here!
I totally agree. One needs to have a certain desire and drive to succeed in life. If one is inherently lazy and not really motivated, then they will not succeed no matter where they go to school.
Congratulations!! My D13 went through the same thing - denied by ED1 school but accepted by ED2 school. I’m very happy for you and your daughter!! The wait is over!!
