Milestone marker #1

Nice one, violadad! Can we expect a youtube debut soon?

:-)

Love the poetry- such a talented bunch!
Although it’s getting late, this idea may help a bit- D made a “checklist” which she gave to the Guidance Office at her HS (All applications have to be sent out through them in this area); she included things such as “transcript”(and how many pages it should contain, which was a great idea considering that they sent out several other with only the first page!), number of Reccomendation letters and which ones were to go with what application, etc. She did her part by including everything she had and then made sure things were right at school. We were very lucky in that her school also had one special “college person” who handled the last minute questions, and either made the phone calls herself of allowed D to use her office, called scholarship sites to make sure they had what they needed, etc. She was an absolute saint and I wish every school was so blessed. D got “thank yous” from the Guidance Office for her organized approach and even though peformance majors apps are more complicated than most, all of her stuff was in on time and complete. Just an idea… she may still have the template if anyone wants it!

Stayed up all night to fill out applications,
Monday mornin’s tests I’m gonna fail,
Fifteen teacher’s recommendations,
Three prescreens and twenty-five forms to mail.

Throughout this college odyssey, I practice ‘til I cannot see
In my mind’s eye, or with my own ears hear,
Playin’ notes that have no name, they all start to sound the same,
This audition won’t go very well, I fear.

Good mornin’, my instrument, how are you?
I can’t quite nail the rhythm on that run.
After repertoire, arpeggios and etudes,
We will play 500 scales 'fore the day is done.

Makin’ copies for the judging panel,
Ten cents a page, can’t find my extra score.
Pass that roll of dimes, but hold the bottle.
Another drink and I’ll be on the floor.

And the sons of rich alumni, and the sons of faculty
Hope their fathers’ magic slots for them can steal.
I try hard to tap my feet to a metronomic beat
But there’s something there I just can’t seem to feel.

Good mornin’, my instrument, how are you?
I can’t quite nail the rhythm on that run.
After repertoire, arpeggios and etudes,
We will play 500 scales 'fore the day is done.

Night time in the city of New Orleans,
We’ll change planes in Memphis, Tennessee.
No hotel, audition in the mornin’
At a school I never cared to see.

But all the towns and people seem to fade into a bad dream
This old E string still ain’t heard the news
The soprano sings her song again
It’s always “Caro mio ben”
I got me the travelin’ audition blues.

Good night, my instrument, how are you?
I still can’t nail the rhythm on that run.
After repertoire, arpeggios and etudes,
We will play 500 scales 'fore the day is done.

Me or you gonna pull up links to instrumental accompaniment?

D is thrilled because she finally finished the last few loose ends needed for some of the applications with January deadlines. Yay! She says, “just think, no more college applications for four years!” My response: Wonderful! Soon you can start on summer program applications!..it really is never-ending, isn’t it?

Happy New Year!
