Has anybody else received this also? Is it a fraud?

I just received a letter from the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and it seems sort of fraudy.

I've tried going on their website and it doesn't work {Cannot Find Server page} although on the searches, bunches of topics come up.

There's like NO information, or at least any important information on it that would make it seem trustworthy.

All it talks about is that if you go to their school and graduate, you can get a good job and salary. And it says that U.S News and World Report gives it a great ranking and all. I checked the U.S News website, and this school is on there, but on the bottom, it also talks about sending in my information {like adress, city, phone, high school, etc.} to be in a drawing for a free sweatshirt.

Honestly, I'm not even thinking of majoring in the science area, and I'm majoring in English Language and Literature.

But there are some things that seem suspicious and parts that seem reliable.

Does anybody know about this?

By the way, I have no idea why they sent this...I'm going to major in the english area and I'm a sophomore. I'm only taking my first PSAT this October too...I haven't really taken any other tests that would help them to know my academic area other than GPA and star tests I believe. I mean, I was in JETS {a math and engineering club thing that does a group competition thing where you solve math questions that are related to engineering}.

I'm not sure why their website isn't working for you (I didn't try it), but it is a real school. My dad is an electrical engineer (now retired) who got his degree there. He just went to a reunion this summer and was impressed how much the school had developed and changed with lots of alumni support. (Some of those engineers got quite wealthy when they started their own companies...) Anyway, yes, it is a real school. Certainly it's not MIT, but not at all a fraud.

I did get into the website. They are ABET accredited (what to look for in an engineering school), and many programs are highly ranked in US news. They also have a nursing school. It is a small school, about 2000 students, and about 80% male (probably why they started the nursing school. . .)

Thank you atomom :)
Now I know that it is a real school, but would this school really send letters already to high schoolers?
I know colleges send info early, but I don't know what basis they are sending this to me for.

Either to tell me to apply to their school to be interested, or they are interested in recruiting me...

If I had to guess, I would say that they got your name from JETS. It might have come from your registration for the PSAT, too, if you've done that.

Schools send information, sometimes repeatedly, to anyone whose name they manage to get. It is pure advertising, not recruiting.
