So, I really like the University of Minnesota. However, I haven't taken a visual/performing art at my school at all. Can I still get into the school even if I never take an art class? My stats seem to be above average for the school, but I'm wondering if I'm less likely to get in because of my lack of an art class.

I'm an out of state student who has already applied, if anyone's wondering.

I asked a similar question when I was applying and was told that the courses under minimum requirements for admission are honestly just very strong suggestions. The most ideal candidate to the admissions office would be someone who has completed all of the courses on the list, but if you haven’t your application isn’t discarded or anything, you’re still considered just as highly. On the other hand, if you’re neck in neck with another person who has applied, but HAS taken that art class you haven’t, they may go with the other guy. In all honesty, though, you shouldn’t worry too much. There’s a good chance you’ll still get in if you’re grades/test scores are high enough.

They want you to have taken those courses because to them it shows a “well rounded” individual, but you can prove that to them in other ways and successes.

Applying to colleges like College of Science and Engineering (CSE) or College of Biological Sciences (CBS) DO require you to have taken physics – that’s enforced a lot more.

Still not too late to take that art class : ) Maybe your school offers something easy peasy online? If you write on your application that you’re planning on taking the class during your senior year, they take that into consideration.

Good luck! Lmk if you have anymore questions.

Okay, this makes me a lot less worried. My stats are above average for the school, so I think I should be fine. I actually just sent in transcripts Tuesday, so here we go!
